    Another blast from the past.

I remember him, he was that bloke from Holland that invented Winkle Pickers back in the 60's.

An inventor of note, whose best inventions came whilst sleeping....<ok>.

He also invented small sea beings who lived in little shells.
These were invented in a small garden shed in Cleethorpes.
    True story.

I'm getting 3.5 - 4 hours at the moment. Usually means waking up about 0230. Just about falling back asleep by 6 when I have to be up at 0615. Fun times!

Have tried everything including heavy duty sleeping pills, running, beer and none of it knocks me out for long.

At least you have set times for sleeping periods.
Its not bad just now, I went to bed at about 7.00am and got up 5.00pm or thereabouts.

But the summer is a f****** nightmare.
I don't tend to wake up until about 11.00pm, and before I know it, its time for the old pit again - 3 or 4 hours awake for a few months.

I know it's supposed to be bad for you, but everynight I have the laptop by the bed playing a playlist of tv programmes. It seems to be completely random which ones work. For some reason the Ricky Gervais Show, Doc Martin or Still Game all work for me. Anything with Richard Attenborough in it also seems to work.

There is actually something on bbc1 now about sleeping Albert. Something to do with melatonin. Evidently I'm not paying much attention

Or you could always pay a visit to Pam and her five friends. You know, like Tash does.

It doesn't do much good being in hotels all the time.

I try to stop in Premier Inns most nights when I'm away, partly because the beds seem to be better than others.
As my drinking is limited, I don't even get the luxury of getting pissed.

I've found that being an ardent Marathon fan helps, so I do nightly 15 mile runs.
    Give them a go...<ok>

Is there any other sort of Marathon....

Actually, I may have exaggerated the 15 mile runs, just a bit, by about 15 miles.
But to be fair, I did run for a bus a few months back, although, had it been further than 30 yards I probably wouldn't have.

Used to be really bad at getting to sleep... (still a bit iffy at times) 2 things really helped:

Audiobooks ... just enough to keep your brain engaged, while you drift off ...whereas not churning ****e over etc

And ....if you guys are using screens late at night ...cannot recommend f.lux highly enough ... it reduces the blueness (Daytime type light) of the phone/pc screen to a red light (evening light) ...slowly over a few hours...basically it helps fool your brain into a 'natural' its time for bed feel ...while a regular unadjusted screen is subliminally telling you ....its daytime stay awake.

It worked for me ..big time (much better for your eyes too)

As a high flying business executive travelling extensively jet lag can be a major headache. I have tried the many supposed remedies including melatonin but find Tash's remedy always works best ( but only while thinking of my wife). Another very useful tip is to have one of your servants sleep for you.
Apparently a lack of sleep is a major contributor to weight gain so I am guessing that Obi may have finally fallen asleep after years of insomnia.
