The first time I ever watched Spurs live, was in 1964. Over the past 52 years, I feel privileged to have seen some truly great goals, but I can't remember the last time I jumped out of my seat as high as I did this afternoon when I witnessed Dele Alli do what he did. Bloody well done young man.

He made Danny Rose look a bit ordinary on a couple of occasions in the first half.

Great lad but does get caught out against wide players who can dribble and in any case is more of a winger than fullback

    "He's a bit special isn't he."

    Precocious talent is the word.

And on a similar note, I wonder how close Pritchard is to being
    called back into the ranks.

He wasn't the first and won't be the last.... As a defender Rose is very ordinary I am afraid. Not sure he offers sufficient going forwards to make up for his lapses. Certainly Davies has looked the more reliable this year.

"Not sure he offers sufficient going forwards to make up for his lapses."

The FBs offer Pochettino a "horses for courses" strategy.
Assess the opponent strengths/weaknesses, decide which pair to play.
Trust in the rotation to make the one not starting raise their game the
    next run out they get.

  17. Not second guessing Poch - he's doing very nicely thank you - but I would have thought Davies would generally be the more logical choice away from home, especially if likely to be targeted by a decent winger/forward.

Just got back from Manchester where I joined my cousin (a rare breed in that he actually lives in Manchester) at the Theatre of Sleep. Utter, utter ****e and the biggest waste of 96 minutes of my life. I couldn't even bring myself to cheer when Austin scored because I'd have preferred seeing him do it in a Spurs shirt <laugh> If we finish below that tepid, comatose team this year I'll erect a statue of Jack Wilshere in my front garden.

Managed to use the return journey constructively by watching the Spurs match - huge thanks to @Inda for providing the goods. F*** me what an atmosphere they cook up there at Selhurst. For a stadium that holds less than 30k, those Holmesdale mob make a heck of a noise. Reminds me of a smaller version of Dortmund's Sudtribune. Massive credit as per usual to our travelling fans, they made their voices heard throughout.

I'm running out of superlatives for young Alli. The irony is that I didn't think he had such a great game overall - especially after Dier went off he looked to be drifting around between our 2 banks of midfield without much effect. But THAT goal. Simply incredible and to think he's only 19. Wow. Just wow.

MOTM for me a certain Mousa Dembele. Immense from start to finish. So strong, so well balanced and has now started to get the ball forward with real pace and ambition instead of piddling around with sideways passes. I cannot believe the transition in this guy since last year but we've known all along that if the day ever came when Mousa realised his full potential, he and we would be nigh unstoppable. Crucial that he stays fit for the rest of the season.

In Walker's absence, Hugo seemed to want to give himself a heart attack. Some really iffy distribution and footwork throughout the game that I hope was a one-off.

Trippier had a decent enough game. He looks a lot fitter than he did earlier on in the season when he appeared to be running through a particularly stubborn treacle. I can only assume Poch's training regime is paying off for him. Still needs to work on his positioning and reading of the game. He commits and/or gets sold the dummy on the inside far, far too easily and picked up a booking today for it.

Eriksen again a mixed bag. These wayward and underhit passes are still littering his game and I'm just at a loss to explain it.

Does anyone have an update about Jan's injury? We have a nice break now until we play Norwich so hopefully he'll be fit by then. As for Wickham, what a thug.

United, West Ham and City all dropped points. I can't bring myself to wish for a Chelsea win tomorrow even though it would help us immensely, so I'll go for a draw with Ozil, Sanchez and Cech all somehow picking up season-ending injuries.

    <cheers>

Was going to ask the same question, does anyone know if Jan's injury is as bad as we feared?
