No mate, they breed them to protect herds of sheep/cattle from predators such as wolves and cheetahs. They're viscious and huge but not in the same league as bears or lions/tigers.

Here's my two, Tiddles (black and white) and Billy (not Cattermole)

Both are rescue cats I got while I was in Germany.

Billy is 18 this year and is showing signs of old age. He is on hyperthyroidism medication and the old boy is the equivalent of 90 in human terms. He still gets about fine and is very affectionate.

Tiddles is 9 and had cat flu before I got her. She is also on medication as she has a cough which comes and goes plus a permanent snotty nose. She also has a level 2-3 heart murmur. However she is very active and also very affectionate.

I've had cats for the last 40 years and wouldn't ever want to be without them, they are great company.

I've toyed with the idea of getting a dog, an Alsatian would be my preferred choice, but the commitment of having to walk the dog for a couple of hours, twice a day, all weathers, is putting me off.

In my opinion, cats make a house a home and when you're sitting watching the telly with a couple of cats sprawled out around you, there's such a feeling of wellbeing.

My sister has a couple of cats and a big doggie, a cross between a poodle and a retriever (a poo-retriever?) and they get on absolutely fine. The dog copies the cats in some of the things they do like sitting on her knees. As the dog is as big as a full grown German Shepherd dog it looks awkward as it tries to climb onto her lap as the cats do.

If you can give a good home to any animal you should do so, you get back so much more from them. Get a rescue one, they are as nature intended and not some breeder's idea of a dog or cat.
Animal Krackers and Pawz for thought are two local shelters.

As Cat Stevens sang in his song 'I love my dog' : All the love I need comes shining through his eyes.

We've got a guide dog (my wife's) and a cat. Both soft as *****. Couldn't imagine the house without them though. Weird isn't it.

Bengal cat sounds more reasonable. cross bred with a wild cat, but the genetics are stable and the "wild" personality traits have been bred out of them.
    Temperament
After three generations from the original crossing, the breed usually acquires a gentle domestic cat temperament;[2] however, for the typical pet owner, a Bengal cat kept as a pet should be at least four generations (F4) removed from the leopard cat. The so-called "foundation cats" from the first three filial generations of breeding (F1–F3) are usually reserved for breeding purposes or the specialty pet home environment.[17] Bengals are known for liking water,[18] and require a large amount of attention to keep them happy. Bengals also enjoy playing, and have been recorded jumping over 4 feet from the ground.

But I'm a dog person myself. Grew up with boxers, but havent got enough £ for a pure breed my self yet so I have 2 cross breeds.

I was thinking for along the lines of a Cocker or a Cocker Labrador cross which has been highly recommended.

Get these big bastards (the males can get upto 30kg) not far from where I live. Maybe I should capture one and cross breed it with a tabby ? They can kill domestic sheep and even smaller wild boar.

no thanks. most dog attacks/bites in europe are done by Labs. cross it with a mental cocker and you're just asking for it. and thats not even taking into account the destruction they'd do to your house unless you walk them 6 times a day.

Same here, mate. Only big dogs as well, can't stand little jack russells and the likes. I'm only considering allowing my lass to get one of these cats because they are big and dangerous looking.

This has turned into a really gay thread now and it wasn't supposed to
