Welbeck is a good squad player and he does have his uses. His high work rate, closing down and speed will be useful coming on as a sub. But he isn't good enough to be leading our forward line as our first choice striker. For the time being he'll do a job for us but by the summer I want him shipped out. No point adding players to the squad for the sake of adding to the squad who aren't good enough. Brunnel hit it on the head with his post, he hasn't improved at all.
I prefer Welbeck playing on the left of the front 3 rather than lone striker, unfortunately that's Sanchez position though
True, Welbeck on the left is useful as he tracks back and helps out the defenders, something Oxo fails to do. Welbeck will be used as an impact sub when everyone is back fit.
Nacho has signed an extension. This been mentioned yet? Anyways, official now so that's good to tie him down. Interesting note from him about his intial struggles when joining with language, new culture and expectations at our level. Obviously he's a very reliable first team player now so it's good to see what a decent run in a side can do for your confidence. Also good to see us sort out contracts at a sensible point for once too!
He's basically made that LB position his own now, when it looked like he was only ever going to be a squad player. It's a real credit to both Monreal and Bellerin that they have made those fullback positions their own.
Yeah both have been fantastic this Season. Nacho has come along way. I think that short spell playing as CB actually toughened him up. He always had good ability going forward but he's now properly adapted to the physical nature of the league as well.
It's good to see those players prove their worth and make the full back positions their own. But it is worrying seeing to see the best English talent failing to make the grade at the top level. Gibbs, Wilshere, OXO, Welbeck and Jenkinson, all seem to be failing expectation. Only Walcott is justifying his selection, which is a poor turnout for homegrown talent. England's future is looking poor....
To be fair to Wilshere and Welbeck, they have been injured. Even Gibbs and Oxo spent quite a while in the treatment table. But yes overall, they haven't kicked on. They've had the best opportunities to also, at a top club playing Champions League football. So maybe the English contingent aren't as good as we'd hoped ? Out of those mentioned though. When fit Wilshere and Walcott are starters in the England team for me.
Fair enough but how many are Arsenal starters, and that is only Walcott. Wilshere may have injury issues but he has failed to live up to his expectations and I doubt he could get into our first 11. Gibbs is bwing benched due to struggling with form and Monreal being better and Wenger shipped Jenkinson out all together. Jenkinson was the most damning of all when Wenger chose Bellerin over him, a guy with little to no experience. What it shows is the English players are over hyped and are poorer in comparison to their foreign counterparts. Something is obviously wrong with the English setup when the cream of English talent is failing at the top level and one thing Wenger can't be accused of is not giving the English players enough chances!
The rumour mill is really scraping the barrel now - Eboue has been linked with a return to the club after crashing and burning in Turkey and being frozen out of the Galatasaray team! LOL Here's the link
Not a rumour, but I would love us to sign Breel Embolo from FC Basel. 18 years old striker, can also play on the wing because of his pace. Will be one of the best strikers in Europe in 5 years. Get him now before everyone else moves for him, because I guarantee they will
we probely need to buy a World class Striker Benzima / Aubameyang / Cavani or up coming Strikers like Dybala / Lacazette, get rid of Debuchy and Campbell bring back Jenko and Wellington Silva. Specially Wellington Silva, he terrorise Defenders with skill agility direct running and distance shooting and got an eye for a killer pass too, he will fit right in with Arsenal one touch passing game. Hope Wenger will keep him from next season.
Why the hell would you want to get rid of Campbell? He has been excellent and is still getting better. But I agree a World Class CF is what we need to really push on to the next level.
In my point of view , Theo do more than Campbell on RW and if we gonna keep playing Alexis on LW Campbell will be on the bench, I'd rather have Wellington Silva and Ox as a back up wingers.
Fair enough. I would take Campbell over Oxo any day though. Works harder, more consistent and gets more goals/assists.
