Can he cover Targett at LB??? Through work commitments today, i have met some reliable chaps who say Bertrand isn't very happy in the club at present. Can the usual ITK candidates shed any light??

On the plus side one of the guys i met (not related to Bertrand news) was Mr Austin senior.
I know he's biased but i think we landed a down to earth talent in Charlie.

 

Everton and Stoke now said to be joining Liverpool in hunt for Shane Long. I think if we lost Long it would take the gilt off the gingerbread of the Austin signing. Austin is really a replacement for Jay (who we hoped would be available for this season), so losing Long will put us back where we started. I also think Long brings something special to the team and will be especially important if Pelle leaves in the summer. Knowing all this doesn't help...I just wish the media would get off our backs. Can't they go and sell Mahrez and Vardy from under Leicester.

 

I can't see either of those. Neither will pay £12m, and he wouldn't be a starter at either, especially if Naismith left because he wasn't getting enough games. Plus it means going up north. But I don't think its the media in this case; reckon this has some truth in it - Liverpool wouldn't be trying to buy him in January if he wasn't available, and Saints have confirmed that by sticking a value on him. Same as Sunderland putting in two bids for Andrew Ayew at Swansea. He must be for sale - who knows why?! If he goes, they're having a clearout at the worst possible time.

 

But have we put a price eon him? They have said this before about our players and hasn't always been true. We paid 12 mill for him....I know we are part way through his contract now, but still seems a bit light if we don't want to sell him.

I think that the media are searching for some sort of transfer story, in what has been a fairly quiet window. The best that they can come up with is that Saints have bought a forward ( which has probably got up their collective noses, as the media weren't in on the secret) and clearly Saints buying a player must mean that they will sell a player in much the same position. Austin in? This must mean that Long is out. Any concept that Saints don't need to, or want to, sell is dismissed, as obviously any player must be desperate to move on from little ol' Southampton to the bright lights of... well, any club that talks to the media, and therefore must be far more desirable. Or am I unduly cynical?

 

Not really.

 

Long still has 2 and a bit years to run, on his contract, so the recent rumours of him being available for £8m, have to be ridiculous.
We don't sell at a loss!
With regards to the Stoke rumour. Dear God no! Our days of selling to them are over. We only sell to teams chasing CL places.
