Is Ms Pinky-Slit's problem that black actors don't get nominated or that black actors who do get parts in films aren't given the recognition she thinks they deserve? Is the Oscar nomination board institutionally racist then? Hollywood isn't racist as such but they tend to like backing winners and since Denzel Washington stopped doing decent roles there aren't enough other black actors who draw in the crowds.

Who is going to give a flying feck that she doesn't show up to the Oscars? Last half decent film she was in was The Nutty Professor ffs! Her hubby is in loads of films but how many howlers has he been in? Does Jada think Will should have got the gong for Men in Black 3? What about that awful load of old pony he was in with their son After Earth? That was utter pants and the only good thing about watching it was that it was free on Amazon Prime. Mr Smith earns mega-bucks and is a box office draw but it doesn't necessarily mean his films or acting are any good.

Who was the last best black actor you saw at the fillums? I haven't seen Hateful Eight yet but Samuel L Jackson will probably deserve an Oscar by being the coolest bloke in the film, other than him I can't remember any stand-out performances by anyone "of colour" recently. The chap in the latest Star Wars was ok but he could have been anyone and I got the impression the producers wanted to "black-up" the Star Wars Universe rather than put someone in the role who was any good.

Are we going to go down the road of the BBC and start sticking black actors in ANY show they make just to up the numbers of minority groups? Black characters showed up in Elizabethan era Doctor Who! And for all the "well why not" brigade I would simply say it is a modern day affectation transposed to an historical location for the sensibilities and mores of 21st Century historical revisionists.

 

You realise there have been black people in the UK for a while now?

Saw that Beasts of No Nation other day,noises about it not been nominated and Idris Elba should have got the nod.I don't think he deserved it and if anyone deserves the nod the kid that played the child soldier did.

 

I am all too aware but since when have they been here in significant numbers to affect society in relation to fiction, entertainment, history, socioeconomic status etc?

Before the Windrush imported West Indians in large numbers the "black community" in Britain was virtually non-existent and they would have been outnumbered by Sikhs prior to the 1950s. Do we get all our knickers in a twist that there aren't enough Sikhs winning Oscars? Did the BBC put Sikh actors into historical programmes set 500 years ago?

A lot of short term memories methinks, it wasn't exactly decades ago that 12 Years A Slave was cleaning up at the Oscars (metaphorically, not actually mopping the stage).

Just another example of vocal minority groups getting out of their perambulators.

 

There's no knicker-twisting here, I just understand their complaint, why does Matt Damon in The Martian deserve an Oscar over Samuel Jackson's performance in Hateful Eight? The acting in Mad Max was pretty **** tbh too, yet they're represented.
