Moan when we don't sign anyone then moan when we do, they might not be the players we have in mind, but have to trust AN knows who he wants. I must confess I wasn't overly excited about Brady and Jarvis but they've turned out good.
On face value it does seem rather over the odds for Naismith but when you compare it to some of the other money flighing about it seems par for the course. When the next PL money deal kicks in this transfer will look like a bargain or at worst par for the course. This is not some Championship best and brightest untested at PL level. He is a quality player who has done it at PL level and is at his peak. I think it is and will prove to be a cracking signing for us. Bah!
Apart from Jarvis's debut has he actually done anything of note for us?? I keep reading all this good stuff about him, how versatile he is and how he has been one of our successful signings, but has he really? Have people actually been that impressed with what they have actually seen him do, or is this another example of people having already made their minds up and just seeing what they want to see? The few times I've seen him play, Saturday being a perfect example, he has been pretty bloody terrible and hasn't offered us much at all - if anything, yet he appears to be completely immune from criticism from what I've been reading, kind of the polar opposite of Russell Martin! Agree with comments about how poor Redmond has been though, and there probably is no direct correlation but I can't help but notice that his rapid downturn in form (folowing a pretty excellent start) started around the exact time his mate Bradley Johnson was sold ("Madness!" I think was the one word tweet from Redders the day it happened).
I agree with him, it was madness to sell BJ. Him infront of Brady might just be our best left sided option. However, if Redmond can't get his arse in gear after all this time following said madness then he is a worse player than I thought! A lot of the game is played between the ears and I realise that what you say is just conjecture but if it even has an element of truth the lad needs a slap. He's better than most of his form this season and needs a; rocket, hug, little balloon elephant ... anything! to get him back on track! Right now he looks a bang average championship player at best! Bah!
I wondered who'd be the first to mention that. Off to the naughty step with you and think about what you've done! Bah!
£8million pounds for Naismith might seem a lot but those are the fees you have to pay in January. He's clearly been a relatively 'long-term' target of ours so it'll good to see us get it over the line. Apparently Klose wants to make the Swiss Euro squad over the Summer, so he has plenty of motivation. Playing for us, he'll have plenty of defending to do with which to make his case!
Was he really though?? Yes he played well and scored on his debut (and so did a certain much maligned Ricky van Wolfswinkel I seem to remember) against Bournemouth as I mentioned but the three games he played before he got injured were: - Leicester at home, lost 2-1, he played crap and was first player subbed off after 59 minutes - WBA at home, lost 1-0, he played crap though at least managed 90 minutes - Man City away, lost 2-1, not sure how he played but he got taken off at half-time so my suggestion would be not very good! He scored in the League Cup against Baggies reserves, and he was unused sub in the humiliation against Newcastle so can someone please explain what exactly made people come to the conclusion that he was "looking good"? His debut seems to be about it as far as I can see, but then again I do often tend to watch a completely different game to a lot of people on here....
I think you must watch a different game lol 2 goals in 7 appearances isn't a bad return and he's good at going forward, so he did actually look good before his injury. He may have had a poor game on Saturday but then so did the whole team and he's just coming back so might take him a couple of games to get back to where he was, I don't see any reasons to be negative with Jarvis atm. And just because a player gets subbed don't suggest that player is playing badly, could just be changing tactics and going with a different type of player.
If all our midfielders could manage 2 goals in 7 appearances, then we might be a bit further up the league. Everyone seems to rant about Hoolahan, but I doubt he scores 2 in 7.
No he didn't, he looked good in his debut and against Baggies reserves, that was it. Sorry, but just saying "he did actually look good" isn't going to convince me I'm afraid, going to need more than that. It doesn't guarantee he has played badly, but I'm afraid when a player gets taken off at half-time, or even 59 minutes of a game we're are losing and playing badly in as a team then it certainly DOES suggest he has played badly! I am well aware of that fact it's the reason that I already stated it I was having a rubbish day at work today and feeling a bit grumpy so thought I'd come on here and let off a bit of steam, it's not working and I'm just getting more annoyed already (not the tiniest bit surprised about that) so think I'll go back to lurking again
Maybe our much maligned (yes, me included!) scouting system does have fingers in more pies than is apparent - or can you just 'hire' someone to go watch the odd random match, like 'freelance scouts'? Either way, we've had a presence in the French league at least twice recently. http://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/...ch-officials-saturday-transfer-window-shoppin
I respect that's what you think and I'm not saying you are wrong or anything but personally I just think he has played well most of the time and tbh it's probably too early to say if he's a good buy or not as he hasn't played a lot, probably won't know until the end of the season. I just think he looks promising and an improvement on what we had.
I wouldn't go quite as far as Munky, but I have to say I agree with him. Jarvis shows a lot of eyeball popping and heavy breathing, but I've yet to see much beyond that first appearance that suggests he is worth anything more than the £2m odd that we paid for him. He's ok, but seems to be one of the lucky ones who wins fans over (I guess the effort helps) as against some players who offer quite a bit more but the perceived lack of effort turns the crowd against them.
