It's a shame Austin wanted to stay in the South. I think it's to do with his young family being very settled. That said, Southampton are a more attractive prospect to players at this time, that has to be a major concern for the future transfer dealings. Austin was just the kind of striker we needed - strong enough to hold-up play but dynamic enough to create by himself. Mitrovic has all the potential in the world, but we need the goals now. He's too young to fully depend upon just now. Carroll is injured again (sigh) so he looks like never coming back. Next???

Think this is one occassion when it is clear the club were not at fault. We certainly were in for him in the summer and i'd be amazed if we hadn't tested the water for him at the moment. The fee is for 6 months football as he would have been free in the summer. Time will tell whether he can repeat the form of last season but definately worth the chance for that money - he clearly didn't want to come to us. That isn't the fault of Mike/ Carr/ McLaren/ etc.
