Jewish is not an ethnicity, most of the Jews in Israel are eastern European. Others Middle eastern, others African, the Africans being converts too when you go back. Just like Christianity, Judaism spread as people joined the religion or converted from their existing beliefs. Is anyone who's family converted from Islam to Christianity generations ago ethnically Christian now?

Another question, if I convert to Judaism, do I have the right to return to Israel?

    Such illogical nonsense.

The term ethnic Jew is a myth, "Semitic" people were people who shared a dialect, in the middle east.

European Jews are descendants of people in Khazaria. Which was in around Ukraine and the Black sea and Caspian sea
They were caught between Christianity and Islam. Rather than be forced to choose a side they converted to Judaism for reasons of expediency. These are the ancestors of almost all European Jews.

Now it matters not the ethnicity, if one wants to follow a religion fine, but the whole fraud of Jewish Ethnicity is laughable, there is no such thing. African Kurdish Iraqi Egyptian Libyan Russian Hungarian Bulgarian Jordanian Palestinian Syrian Ethiopian Sudanese... I mean the list goes on, so even suggest these people share ethnicity, all of them, because they share a religion.. I need a drink <laugh>

There is one requirement to be Jewish, you must follow Judaism, as it is built around God. If you don't believe in God you can't be a member of the religion. You can pretend, but being an atheist means you reject the religion ffs

There is one requirement to be Semitic, you speak Semitic dialect. It is not related to race or religion, the term Semitic has no bearing on people, it is a word to describe the language.

Therefor logically claiming someone is antisemitic, by the meaning of the actual word, not the reclassification, you are claiming they are biased against people because they speak a language. Is there even a term for that?

Judaism and Semitic are only related by association, they actually have nothing to do with each other, other than people were Jews and spoke a language, a dialect, it did not mean that everyone who spoke that dialect was Jewish

Khazaria I am not too clear on but was a result of Khazar, one of Genghis Khan's brother's conquest, as they pushed as far as Moscow and beyond under Genghis. This region was under *****l control, which is why I suspect it was called Khazaria. Turkey emerged from *****lia and spread, it's an uncharted part of history, the Khazars came from *****lia controlled regions.

"The Khazars surprise their contemporaries (and intrigue historians) by converting en masse to Judaism in the 8th century."

The source of most European Jewish ancestry comes from these people, who spread from *****lian controlled regions, converted and moved into eastern Europe.

    Hardly anything ethnic about Judaism

Doesn't Dara O'Brien refer to himself as an atheist, ethnic Catholic? Labels. Point is, all of what you said is technically correct, but I doubt it'd change the mind of a twelve-fingered redneck calling him a Yid of some conspiratorial degree as soon as he opened his mouth as a climate change believer (sorry, religious fanatic).

    <laugh>

    No bother <ok>

he can refer to himself as that but if he is atheist, he does not believe in god and therefor is not part of the catholic faith.

No doubt Dara was born into Catholicism cos the church likes to get us young before we can think. He has not left the church officially I'd imagine, cos why bother yeah.. maybe technically he's a member of the catholic church but he doesn't give a **** and doesn't believe in God.

I seriously doubt Dara seriously called himself an ethic catholic in any serious way, he's a pretty smart bloke. He's surely not that thick

Jewish identity is the objective or subjective state of perceiving oneself as a Jew and as relating to being Jewish.[1]Under a broader definition, Jewish identity does not depend on whether a person is regarded as a Jew by others, or by an external set of religious, or legal, or sociological norms. Jewish identity does not need to imply religious orthodoxy. Accordingly, Jewish identity can be cultural in nature. Jewish identity can involve ties to the Jewish community.

    Jewish identity is a concept.

It is not rooted in the reality, how one wishes to identify one's self with something doesn't change anything.

You can only be Jewish if you are part of the religion, it's a religion, because someone wrote a wiki explaining how they identify with Judaism does not make them Jewish

Jewish identity does not depend on whether a person is regarded as a Jew by others
So I can identify with being Jewish, and yet not be part of Judaism? I would be a non Jewish Jew?

No because as I said, calling yourself Jewish does not make you Jewish, which is what "Jewish Identity" tries to do.

Ironically, seeing as you brought up Jewish identity
The Israeli government banned a book 2015 about a a love affair between an Arab and Jew. The reason "it would cause problems for Jewish mothers regarding their Jewish identity". << Using a concept, an ideological one, to literally grind up books, in 2015!

Though the main point is you cannot be atheist and religious, you can identify as a anything you wish but it doesn't mean you are right

FYI I hate all religions, and loathe the Vatican more than any other religious leadership. Hating on folks because they believe in a certain religion, is lost on me.

I try blame people for their ****ty actions, not this old and come back fad of blaming religion

Hence the reason that piece says that it's an "objective or subjective state of perceiving oneself as a Jew"

It's like me saying I'm a Catholic who's now an atheist. the cultural association with that religion formed part of my life.

The whole issue is moot anyway, as you were using the fact the guy called himself a Jewish Atheist as a way to try and discredit him, which was nonsense.

Here is the problem with conflating "identity" with the actual reality.

As for discrediting, you do that at every turn with your "conspiracy loon" such hypocrisy.

And yes, calling yourself Jewish and atheist is stupidity and delusional, technically, the best kind of correct. Atheism is anathema to Judaism, that's the reality

You can "identify" as moon man, sure.

I've no idea who that is and why she feels that association. She may have black parentage, or she may be a complete barm pot.

But it's irrelevant to the simple point, if you're brought up as a Jew, Catholic, Muslim or whatever and you subsequently decide that the religion isn't for you, that doesn't alter the fact that it formed part of your life and maybe the cultural aspect (whatever form that may take) still does, but you don't hold with the belief system. The 2 aren't necessarily mutually exclusive.

It's not irrelevant at all. It is a perfect example of someone's "identity" having nothing to do with reality. Just as claiming to be Jewish without believing in Jewish religion.
She claims to be black without black DNA. She "identifies" even though she doesn't actually fit the criteria, and an Atheist Jew "identifies" as Jewish without fitting the actual criteria as set out by definition.

So just make up a concept. Hey presto, you are Jewish, or black, without religion or ethnic reason.

You are literally saying you can be Jewish starting tomorrow, just by deciding you are by "identifying as Jewish". <ok>

I've said nor suggested nothing of the sort. The person that you slated for his comment, was brought up as a Jew, no?

Yes you did by arguing that if you identify as Jewish as per your wiki source.

Either way we'll agree to disagree, I've made it clear anyhow, that you cannot be Jewish and Atheist, by definition (any claim of it is delusional) and there is no such thing as Jewish ethnicity.
    I identify.. <laugh>

Only if you're a moron who confuses certain universal moral or ethical concepts with Christianity

If you don't believe Jesus was the son of God and also God himself then you've got no reason to associate with Christianity

Is that not that basis of religion? That morals/ethics were put under the umbrella of some made up fella?

I have no belief in a higher power, but live in some ways by the morals/ethics covered in that repegtion.

All you need is to do is like some of the culture and traditions?

Strange, cos Ethiopian Jews are very culturally different than American Jews, or English Jews French Israeli and so on. There is no cultural hegemony, traditions and cultures are extremely varied. Religiously they are all the same more or less to varying degrees. Orthodox and so on.

The binding aspects are the religion. So if you are atheist, you have no tie to Jews all over the world, by definition, as culture is drastically different all over the world. Religious traditions, are similar, again religion is the only binding thing globally.

    So this "concept" is nonsense

and as for your defence of Schmidt, let me paraphrase what he said.

Texans are too dumb for science lets use different tactics THIS IS NOT WHAT A SCIENTIST SHOULD BE SAYING
I have nothing in common with the entire state of Texas because I am an atheist Jewish man from New York "No shared values", what like family and working hard and so on...

He essentially pissed all over an entire state of people. He said lets use social manipulation and less science to push our message.

But lets jump all over the comment i made on this sly ****s delusional identity and no dissemination of what the **** said.
