I just hope he doesn't play against us again this weekend at Kenilworth Road after the way he destroyed our defense a few days ago.

Having said that we've now got a young, hungry innovative manager at the helm so things might just get a tad better. Sure thing they can't get much worse, all we've seen from our lot over the last twelve months is pure dross.

2 reasons why I hope he doesnt play or play but is rubbish against you....

1: If he doesnt play then could be that he is on his way to us.
2: Cambridge are currently 3 points away from the play offs so a defeat to them helps us!

Hope you get the 3 points either way <ok>

Pants. This should have been put on the transfer thread, which I forgot about (the thread I made <doh>)

Can a mod move/merge this to that other thread, unless you want to leave it of course.

Not as much as I do Jack. After being touted as promotion favourites at the start of the season we've played so far more in the mould of relegation fodder. It's been truly abysmal, hoofball, penalty box to penalty box kicks, no idea why we have midfielders in the team, I imagine they've all got neck ache. All I want to see is some entertaining stuff, ball played to feet, one stuff passes and above all, 100% effort and application from all the players. I can accept losing so long as the players have given everything and so far a lot of them have looked completely disinterested as if they'd rather be out shopping with the missus!

Mark Tyler made a horrendous error to gift you your second goal, but that is such a rare occurance and I dread to think where we would be today in the league table but for many of his MOTM performances this season, I reckon he's saved us close to ten points on his own.

Hopefully this new manager will slap them into shape, get rid of some dead wood and give some of the hungry youngsters a chance, at least on the bench.

Sound like how I did the season we got relegated. I feel sorry for you if you are experiencing what we had to go through. When you got relegated to non league it was because of points deductions wasnt it? Getting relegated because of players not giving a crap is the worse. But going down was a blessing to me. We got rid of the dead weight players and those who felt too embarrassed to have non league in their CV. We got in players who want to be here and want to fight for the shirt and for each other. We have real team spitit in our ranks and real leadership too which has havent had for years. That got us up without having any real quality. We had some good performances in non league but most results we had to battle for and we won those games on passion alone from the players. Now they have huge confidence and we are playing some really great football. We get bad games but most of the time, we dominate games. Had we survived that season when we were relegated, I fear we would have been stuck with time wasters in our team. But now we have players who are grateful for being given a chance who always gives 100% every single game, which as you say is all what you want to see regardless of the result. Thankfully we have that and we look in a good position for a top 7 place. Gaffney for me could be the difference of getting in the top 7 or missing out.

Rory Gaffney could still get his wish for a move from Cambridge United to Bristol Rovers. United chief executive Jez George said the clubs remained in talks over the striker's future after Gaffney vented his spleen in the Irish media, stating he would rather have stayed with the Pirates after a loan spell that saw him score five goals in seven matches. Gaffney said he also felt he had been messed around by United, claiming he had been told he would not get games by manager Shaun Derry and that he would be allowed to move to the Memorial Stadium on a free transfer.

"I don't know what will happen this weekend," he told the Irish Sun. "Bristol want me, but I don't know what will happen here."

Gaffney started last Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Crawley. But how much longer he is with United remains to be seen, with Rovers boss Darrell Clarke still desperate to take him back. George said: "There's dialogue between the two clubs, but we're absolutely adamant that we'll only do what's right for Cambridge United. That's our job and our responsibility."

But George felt it would not be right to comment on Gaffney's outburst or whether he would be censured for his actions. He said: "We're a professional football club that always endeavours to behave professionally, therefore I don't feel it would be professional to comment on a story of this nature. Obviously, Rory is a professional footballer and we'd expect him to behave in an equally professional manner. I don't want to comment further and I think we'll put everything into context at the right time when we've resolved Rory's future."

I just love the way Jez George calls Gaffney's comments an 'outburst' and 'lack of professionalism'. IMO he has simply stated his view of the U-turn by Cambridge. Reading George's comments and how he feels about it, I expect Rory is even more determined to give Cambridge the elbow.

Rovers have said on twitter a few times that there is a delay but will be announced soon. I wonder if it is Gaffney and Derry has changed his mind again!

    Forward signs with the Gas!

Former Rovers loan striker Rory Gaffney today rejoined the club on a permanent basis following a short spell back with his parent club, Cambridge United.

Popular with team mates and supporters alike, the Galway born player scored five goals in seven league matches during his impressive one month loan spell with us.

Manager Darrell Clarke said today; "It goes without saying that I am very pleased to welcome Rory back to the Memorial Stadium on a permanent basis.

"I've been unable to say anything about the situation since he returned to his parent club as he was a Cambridge United player and it would have been disrespectful to speak about another club's player.

"I did say, when he joined us on loan, that he would give us a different option in attack and I think he proved that during his short time with us. Now I look forward to working with him again and I know that he will be welcomed back by the whole squad as we prepare for some very important matches."

Chairman Nick Higgs revealed that discussions with Cambridge regarding a permanent transfer have been ongoing for at least a week; "I have to say that negotiations have been cordial and would like to thank Cambridge United and their Chairman for the professional manner in which we have been able to discuss, and finally conclude, the transfer.

"Cambridge didn't really want to lose Rory and I have spoken with their Chairman on a daily basis for the last week. I have nothing but praise for everyone involved in the eventual transfer at the Cambridge end and wish them well for the remainder of the season.

"Rory is joining us for an undisclosed fee and on a permanent contract and I am delighted that he is returning to us. It's a very important signing for Bristol Rovers as we bid to achieve a second successive promotion.

"Darrell has continued to build on last season's success and we will do everything we can to back him as we look to improve our already impressive record this season. In welcoming Rory back to us, I would like to wish him a long and successful career with Bristol Rovers."

Rory joined Rovers on transfer deadline day, 26th November 2015, in a one month loan deal from Cambridge United and made his debut against Exeter City two days later.

Having made his League of Ireland First Division bow with Mervue United in a 1-0 home defeat against Athlone Town in March 2009, he had registered braces against Salthill Devon, Finn Harps and Wexford Youths before a high profile move to Limerick, whom he helped secure promotion to the Irish Premier League in 2012, a season in which he was First Division Player of the Year.

Gaffney’s spell at Limerick included a hat trick in a 4-1 home victory over Bray Wanderers in August 2014, amongst his 19 goals in 44 (+6) Premier League appearances. He was Limerick’s top scorer in the 2014 season with 14 goals.

He joined Cambridge United in January 2015, but a foot injury meant that he didn't make his debut for them until September 2015 at the Abbey Stadium when, despite only playing the last nine minutes, he set up the only goal of the game against Stevenage. The following month, his first full start enabled him to score two first half goals as Yeovil Town were defeated 3-2 at Huish Park and he played the final 20 minutes against Rovers the following weekend.

Rory scored his first Rovers goal in the 3-0 win against Dagenham & Redbridge on 19th December 2015 and scored twice against both Leyton Orient and Luton Town in the final two games of his loan spell before his return to The Abbey Stadium.

The U’s have now negotiated a permanent deal for the 26-year old and commenting on the switch, Manager Shaun Derry said: “The intention of Rory moving to Bristol Rovers on loan was for him to return fitter, stronger and in a better frame of mind, solely focussed on the remainder of the season.

“Sadly Rory came back wanting to move to Bristol Rovers and when a player makes that decision, we only want people here who want to play for this football club.

“Everybody has to be 100% committed to what we want to achieve and with Rory saying he wanted to be elsewhere then our minds our made up.

“We have been able to secure a deal with Bristol Rovers that is right for our football club.”
