When a horse drifts across the track and off a straight line boil. The disadvantage being they are losing precious ground by going from one side to the other and therefore not getting from A to B as quick. Lots of common causes can be burst blood vessels, if a horse gets spooked or is tiring badly etc.

Not really. Some horses are inclined to jump left or right over obstacles at times but that isn't the same as hanging, some quirky horses may have a tendency to jump one way or the other throughout their lifetime but it's usually solve able for most.

If a horse hung left for a long period I'd be inclined to think something is amiss with the horse. Many cases of hanging occur near the finish of the race with tired or idle horses but it can happen at any stage of a race.

    Main reasons being:

Field shy, mouth cut, sore, tiredness and worst of all for an owner the horse could have a bad attitude also.

Different type of blinkers and teeth rasping are solutions to fixing some of the problems and a good vet check if needed.

    Hope this helps boil.

I guess a horse would hang for a prolonged period if out of its comfort zone (so struggling to go the pace). Otherwise you usually see hanging at the business end of the race due to tiredness or greenness / inexperience. Basically it is a sign of discomfort from the horse.

Thanks guys ! Im just looking at whether the excuses they give have any relevance to how they perform next time out ? And alot of jockeys come in saying tht they either hung or lost a shoe

Shame about Apache- but then again as you know my liking for Patricia Hunt-owned Noel-Meade trained animals only ever ends in antepost disappointment. Thankfully after Vautour demolished him last season I haven't had a bean on, although I was stung on Monksland around 3 years ago!

VVM is listed as entered for the Limestone Lad hurdle.

She looks a supreme talent, much like Annie Power, and I hope she gets a shot at a top, top prize.

Splint at the moment mate - this from racing post:

LAST season's JLT Novices' Chase runner-up Apache Stronghold is unlikely to appear this campaign.

The eight-year-old has not raced since finishing third to Valseur Lido at Punchestown in the Grade 1 Growise Champion Novice Chase last April and trainer Noel Meade said: "We might get him to Punchestown, but I'd say he'll probably miss the season.

"It's not a tendon injury but every time I go at him it just flares up again. At this stage I think we're as well off to forget about it for the season. He has a splint coming out of the back of his suspensory ligament."

Apache Stronghold finished first, second or third six times as a novice, with a highlight victory coming in the Grade 1 Flogas Novice Chase at Leopardstown in February.

Ballyglasheen just ran a fine 2nd on the sand at Kempton - wouldn't be at all surprised to see him pop up in something like the County Hurdle

I know it's after timing stick but I went for dark lover didn't like your price. Dark lover was a good juvenile , wasn't sure he'd stay, but won like a good thing 9/1

You're thinking of the wrong race for her Wooly! Her assets her jumping, she absolutely pings her fences. Think of another race on the card ;)

The 3 mile handicap chase - that's why I think Ricci could go through the card on day 1 - he just needs something for the novice chase <laugh>

Woolly I agree with most of what you say, but like humans, horses are right and left handed. For me a classic example is wishful thinking. Most are not generally schooled properly to use themselves. Most trainers are only interested in horses that go quick, and when it goes wrong seek the help of people like yogi briesner.sue smith and Venetia Williams normally produce well schooled horses.
