Apparently, 63% of us think that England should have it's own national anthem played at sporting events and it's being discussed by MPs in the house today, Sky ran a poll and got the following results: Land Of Hope and Glory 40% Jerusalem 31% There Will Always Be An England 18% I Vow To Thee My Country 11% ITV ran their own (with God Save The Queen included) and it's currently: God Save The Queen 24% Land Of Hope And Glory 31% Jerusalem 31% Swing Low Sweet Chariot 5% Other not mentioned 9% So which do we prefer?
I hate Jerusalem its so god damned boring How the hell does that rouse anybody when you compare it to Wales,France and Germany anthems Land of hope and Glory if we must change
You can't have an anthem called Jerusalem which although one of my favourite cities is in another country and doesn't need rebuilding.. I don't like "God" being in the title either.. why not 'We could be Heroes" by Bowie.. just for one day when we lift the EC or WC..
I'd stick with God Save The Queen, purely because I don't find the alternatives very appealing. Now if they were considering English Civil War...
I like Land of Hope & Glory, sort of always what we do when we turn up to any sporting event. It would be nice to have a specific up to date new song, but there'd be so many arguments over it that it would end up being some Simon Cowell inspired piece of ****, I could imagine watching England run out to Heroes though.
Why does it have to be some old hymn. Pop music is something the English happen to be very good at. Use it.
