Seriously though, I'm still buzzing with that result.
Early goal down, opponent went into containment mode and we managed to pick plenty of holes in them and rattle off some shots. Keeping the likes of Bru, Sears and Fraser fit will help our cause no end.

I decided to go to the game so will part with my opinions of the proceedings.

Back 5 were rubbish in the first 15, struggling to deal with long balls (usual bread & butter for our centre halves) but eventually grew into the match & the closest Leeds came to scoring after their early goal was a Tommy Smith deflected cross (Smith was imperious at the back). Gerken had very little to do.
Knudsen had a decent game, he hasn't got the best distribution (but then who does in our defence) but looked comfortable defensively.. Chambers had a great 2nd half.

Midfield is still my biggest frustration, we worked the ball nicely at the back & then the only option for the full backs is a pass back to the centre back or a hump upfield down the channel. Neither Douglas or Skuse demand the ball enough when the play is behind them, they seem to jump into action once the ball goes by them and they are behind the play. One area that Leeds looked comfortable was midfield (particularly 1st half) as they had good possession without any real penetration. Bru on the other hand looked as composed as I've ever seen him in possession. He probably didn't pass the ball much more than 10 metres each time but he showed confidence to get on the ball and was at total ease when he had it. Like a metronome in the middle of the park and really helped us tick whilst Skuse & Dougie chased down their midfield.

Out wide, I thought Freddie had one of his quietest games, apart from the odd flash he never looked like he was going to get the better of his man but still put in a decent shift. Fraser on the other hand was a livewire when he had it (probably not enough in the 1st half) and second half was able to start pulling a few more strings to make us more threatening, it is telling that it was his crosses that got us the goals. He adds that bit more quality than we had last season.

Upfront I thought Murph led the line well but never really looked as threatening as he did last season. He was unlucky on a couple of occasions but it was a workmanlike effort without any consistent threat. Pittman, was similar but obviously bagged the goal (he really is that fox in that box) and is a massive bonus to have in the squad compared to last season.

Overall one of the more enjoyable games I've been to in recent year. We had numerous good chances and wouldn't have been unfair to win 4 or 5-1. I also sat in the SBR lower and the atmosphere was as good as anything in recent years. By far better than sitting in the upper and will definitely look to sit there from now on.

I also wanted to say that Marco Silvestri = Poor man's Dean Gerken. He never looked comfortable and made me appreciate Gerks a bit more, even if I do think we need a new GK. How a professional footballer cannot kick a ball in a straight line is beyond me. He made Andy Marshall look as reliable as like Jonny Wilkinson.

That's a good assessment of the game Scowey, after the first 15 mins we started to take control of the game and dominated the second half, Leeds defended well and coupled with some wayward finishing looked likely to get
something out of the game until Pittman scored a deserved winner.
We had half a side missing for most of the first half of the season, now Bru, Fraser, Hyam, and Varney are back we can see the difference in the way we move the ball out to the flanks, its not perfect but its definitely better and if and when Bishop and McGoldrick are fit we will at last be up to full strength.

Just out of curiosity, can anyone see McGoldrick fitting in and getting any games? (barring injuries) Same goes for Bish - who's going to be dropped (Bru?) There's no way I can see MM dropping a holding midfielder (be it Skuse or Douglas) to include Bish in the team.

Would like to think we can accommodate Teddy somewhere but probably only as a sub, seems like we pushed him too much last season and he is really feeling the effects, shin splints are no joke. Dropping one of Skuse/Douglas with Bru being withdrawn slightly may be an option too.

McG on the other hand I couldn't give a flying fig about. Plenty of skill, minimal end product and selfish at the wrong times. Would rather any two from Sears, Murphy or Pitman ahead of him.

What a lovely issue to have for later in the season potentially.

I guess in Bishop's case, you would imagine an attacking mid would be the more likely.

McGoldrick may be more difficult to accommodate with us maybe having to change our way of playing, but I'd imagine he'd get minutes. Poor guy made of glass. He's often selfish at times due to the terrible movement around him with people not being intelligent enough to be on his wavelength, but with Fraser around I'd imagine them two could hit it off.
