Think that was his only strike for us. Although he seemed to do well at Plymouth and Northants later in his career.
Can’t write off our opponents, but it’s a real chance of getting to R5. R5 is where the FA Cup starts to get serious – just two games from Wembley.
Been to the Kassam stadium twice - once just after Brian Little got sacked, think it was 0-0? Then in Peter Taylor's 2nd league game in charge and we lost 2 - 1. Not been to the others, though.
This could be my dream tie as long as Bury beat Bradford. My best mate is a massive Bury supporter (odd, I know) and as students we used to endlessly play Fifa 97, spending hours creating our all time favourite Hull and Bury teams to play each other (sad, I know). I seem to recall going to an away match to Gigg Lane in the 3rd or 4th division which ended 0-0, but Ian Ashbee got sent off for diving in the last minute when he was clearly clattered in the box by a Shaker. Do I recall correctly?
Both teams within a reasonable distance, and I imagine we will take quite a few fans. Sounds like a good cup away day either way too me.
Just watched the 'highlights' of the draw itself. Cheap and tacky. Is it just me that misses the old style draw at Lancaster House. Graham Kelly whipping out his velvety ball bag for Bert Millichip and some other old fart to grab a ball each. Had more gravitas for me.
My dad and granddad would certainly have been to the first game at Anlaby Road which was drawn. We lost the replay at Bury. I saw us play at Bury in 1961 in the only other major Cup match we have competed against them. Was working in Lancaster and went to the League Cup match where we won 4-3 in a very good game.
I went to the second one with a mate who is an Oxford pass holder. They were top of the league at the time and thought they were on their way back up the leagues after that result. They had a player Julian Alsop who was sent off that day for clattering our keeper. At the end of the year they were top of the league but later in the season the fortunes of the two took a dramatic divergence. They collapsed in the second half of the season and did not even make the playoffs. They ended up having a few years playing in the Conference. We of course had the first of PT promotions on the way to the promised land. And what happened to Julian Alsop. If you do not know, just Google his name and banana and youth player !!!!
We deffo beat Bradford at BP circa 89/90 in Y&H Cup Final. It was 2-0 with either two late goals or AET. However, we might have also beaten Scarboro to win it too at some point (such was our glory). Have a feeling we might have won it as well when Craig Lawford was on trial and scored about 5 goals pre season.
The one I'm thinking of I'm sure a very moody Edwards won the cup with a free kick under Appleton in his second spell. I really dont remember us winning it twice but I'm not saying we didnt. There;s surprisingly little about it on t'interweb.
OT Junior's very first City game. We were over from the US with his 1st visit to England. He also got to see us draw 3-3 against Cheltenham (first match at the KC for me) and win 2-1 at Cambridge on the trip. His first reaction at Oxford was that it was too noisy. There was loads of room in the away seats so we moved to the fringes.
