Routledge out--Bothroyd in. So lets just say we've lost one quality player but gained another (plus Dyer <yikes>), coupled with the news that Tarbs is staying leaves us with more or less the same strength squad that won us the Championship last season.

On that basis, how many more players do you think we need to sign to give us a realistic chance of staying up?

Although I know we're not going to get as many, I'm still convinced we need 5 or 6 good Premier League Standard additions to make us competitive.

    What you think boys?

We ain't gonna get another five or six even though that's what would be needed to save some frantic search and rescue activity in the January sales.

I reckon Gabbidon and Webber will be signed up to placate our additional CB and striker needs.

That leaves a pacey full back and an anchor man as cover for Derry and Faulin.

These two at most is all I think we'll get within the coming weeks - and that's if we're very lucky!

I'd be happy with two new fullbacks and a proper central defender - I'm not convinced about Gabbidon. As you then say Brixton, cover (replacement) for Derry is essential. A spare striker wouldn't hurt, then a proper replacement for Routledge. Is that too much to ask?

If Dyer was one of Warnock's top 2 targets, expect to be underwhelmed.

Gabbidon & Webber - I wouldn't have been happy with either of these two if we were still in the Championsip.

Just to clarify, not saying I'm satisfied with what's occuring, just think it's about all we can hope for at this stage.

I think the squad is slightly stronger than last year's, as I think Dyer (as long he's fit!! I Know, I know!) is a better player than Routeledge and Bothroyd, although I don't think he's fantastic, is better than any forwards from last year.
I think we need a half decent CB, a fast full back (preferably two) and cover for Derry and Faulin.
Upson would do as CB. Bullard as CM. Not sure where the full backs would come from though.
If we don't get any more in, how's this for the starting line-up on 13th August?
    Kenny
    Orr Gabbidon Hill Connolly
    Derry Faulin
    Dyer Tarrabt Smith
    Bothroyd
Doesn't look too shabby, although I know the defence needs to be stronger!!

He is one of the few I do have hopes for.

Strangely, when we got promoted I was advocating letting the existing team have a go at the Premier League as they deserved it. Clearly the Goons listen to me!

I think there will be a few loans coming in if the tightarsed Goons don't want to spend...

Brixton..........yeah, I know there's still Gorrks. I do quite rate him so I wouldn't mind him being one of the CBs.
Swords.........Who, in the team I named, would you replace and with whom? (Realistically, taking everything that is going on into account).

swords...........with the type of player that our non existent budget would attract, we're much much better off after todays news re tarbs.

We could never have replaced his quality, even if we signed ten (or twenty) duff over the hill free agents.

The likelihood is that we won't sign any 'proven' premiership quality players, and we're just going to have to make do with what we have............which is looking a lot better than it was 12 hours ago.

Two quality signings (not including Gabbidon and Webber :emoticon-0112-wonde) and i'm feeling confident we'll make a good account of ourselves.

Do any of you reckon we should take a look at Craig Cathcart??
Thought he did well in a porous Blackpool defence last season.

I have nae a clue mate, that's Nelly & Co's job. What I do know is that our Championship side isn't up to the Premiership. No Championship side is. We need 5/6 more, if not we'll go down I guarantee.

TURBO.........I agree we're better off than 12 hours ago. We're still woefully short

If you look at it another way..............we've basically signed a £10 million player today...................a player who has individual match winning qualities not seen in many of the teams in the bottom half of the prem league.

Kenny, Gorkss, Faurlin, Bothroyd (not proven at top level yet) Taarabt, maybe Smith.

That's it is far is I can see. So we need a few!

    Spot on Turbo!!
Swords...I feel you are a tad too negative. With Adel staying, Bothroyd up front and, IF he can stay fit, Dyer in one of the 2 places each side of Adel, I'd say we're better off than last season. Still time to strengthen a little yet too.
