KIO, it was not directed solely at you but yes you are one of the loudest. Perhaps you'd like us to have a rich American owner like Randy Lerner or Ellis Short? Just look what they've done for Villa and Sunderland. I'd rather we were owned by a genuine fan and put up with the odd mistake! You'll be telling me next that you've never made a mistake! **** happens! For the record, I may disagree with you but I really like you!
Admittedly I've only gone back the last couple of pages, but can you pick out a post where anyone has directly advocated for Delia and MWJ selling to whoever has the deepest pockets? Because I can't see one. All I see is frustration that someone who we were apparently targeting has ended up at a rival for a not unreasonable fee, and begrudging acceptance that we simply can't compete financially in this division. I think it's mainly Bedford questioning where our PL money has gone (without wishing to single anyone out), and I think Rob did a good job of explaining it earlier. When we went down, the first priority was to get back up. So we maintained the best squad we could, on wages that relied significantly on our parachute payments. Any transfer dealings were financed by the sales of Snodgrass and Fer, there wasn't a lot left over. When we came up, our squad immediately returned to PL wages, so a lot of our new income was instantly accounted for. In comparison, Bournemouth had a much lower wage bill, and I bet their pay rises upon promotion weren't as significant as ours. So they had more money to play with, plus a Russian owner to pump in money. Watford also have wealthy backers, and I think the big difference between us and them is how their players have adapted. Ighalo and Deeney have stepped up a division with ease, I don't think you can point to a Norwich player who has done the same.
One other point I'd like to make, we've all seen and enjoyed the honesty of Alex Neil's post match interviews, if DM was acting according to how some of you suggest, offering crap fees and crap wages, I'd put money on AN calling him out!
Dave None of us are stupid nor plastic. The frustration is about us bidding 8m for a player in the summer and then not, apparently, bidding for him in January as we have set our sights elsewhere (Naismith) and decided someone we wanted a few months ago we no longer want while at the same time holding on to a sellable asset (Grabban) who probably never wants to play for us again.
But you are only guessing what has happened, I'd bet my house that we did nit receive a substantial bid for Grabban!
Acting like plastics!? Since when has wanting to see one's team compete and survive in a very tough league been construed as false support? Jeepers creepers!
I dunno - I quite like the way the club is run and I quite like being being poor little Norwich. As I see it, the club is bigger than all of us, fans, players and board. The board have invested money for the right to become custodians of the club and the fact that we are where we are without significant external finance is something to be applauded. It means that there is a greater likelihood of NCFC still being around a long time after we have all departed this world. I don't want players to come here because they want wedge or the kudos of joining an already successful team. I want us to get in players that aren't on others radars, hungry to prove themselves at this level and fight for our cause. Of course, such players are difficult to find. But they are out there. Now who was it that cloned Huckerby and Grant Holt at birth and cryogenically froze them in their prime?
When you see teams around us buying players and strengthening like Bournemouth are, I can understand our own fans wanting us to do the same. But even if we don't sign anyone else I'd still feel quietly confident we will stay up, so far we are doing as well as expected and if the 2nd half of the season goes the same way, we'll be ok. But I'm sure everyone behind the scenes are hard at work, I presume signing players isn't as easy as we think it is.
Who would guess our club has won 3/4 games over the festive period? I might pop over to the Villa forum for a bit of upbeat chat!
When are you going to start reading my posts properly and STOP looking for a stick to beat me with? Wanting rich owners to buy success is exactly what a plastic is!
I don't want to see my club sign mercenary players. I have never booed my team of the pitch. But I do want to see my club compete in the Premier League and I would love to see some quality players join us. If that makes me a plastic then I'm guilty as charged along with many others on this forum and around East Anglia. I don't think it's unreasonable that we should expect the club to splash some cash (within our means of course) given that we sold Johnson on deadline day. We're around 1/3 of the way through this window and considering that the club 'want to get our business done early' it's been pretty disappointing thus far. I wouldn't personally question DM but after a disappointing Summer window and what looks like becoming the second one in a row under way I can see why people are restless. We do have money. Our rivals Bournemouth are making ambitious signings, it's time we did the same. It's the 21st Century, you can't stay in the PL if you're not willing to invest.
That's more or less exactly what Lambert brought to the party, although it was several years ago now. Pilks, E Benno, Fox, Tierney etc. Different as we were newly promoted back then, but the ethos still applies. I'd love some input from Superman now, as he appeared to have a finger on the pulse of our scouting / recruiting system like no others currently posting on here - hence much of the present 'infighting'
Bournemouth are owned by a rich Russian and broke FFP rules last season but escaped punishment by gaining promotion, they are well on the way to breaking them again and will then be punished!
Yep, me too. Shall I stick my own head in the noose or does anybody else want the privilege? KIO, you're a plastic, you are!!
Read the words highlighted in bold type once more. I want to see a shade more ambition to try and ensure survival - that is neither the behaviour of a "plastic" fan, nor being used as a stick to beat the **** out of anybody with. Some of your posts make it look like you hanker for the days of proper prudence - and on that subject, what's Neil Doncaster up to these days
Of course we should live within our means but I reckon have a significant amount of capital. We are prepared to spend it BUT seemingly only if the price is to our liking which it rarely is, which, if you ask me, is why we haven't been able to bring in any stars.
KIO, I said ACTING LIKE PLASTICS - NOT that you are a plastic, yet another stick to beat me with. Even when I ask him to read what I've posted, he is STILL incapable!
I don't believe we do have significant capital. Most of the riches of Premiership status don't appear at the start of the season, whilst operating costs rise instantly.
