People said this about Brady and then a few months later he was amazing. Akpom missed a sitter from one of Robertson's excellent crosses at Rotherham. There's been plenty more of them this season. Elmo's goal against Chelsea last season was a great ball from Robertson. They're just examples off the top of my head. It's just constant negativity with you Chazz. Not happy unless you've got something tomorrow about. Just support the team. Etc.
Robertson puts some great balls in....to be fair if he only put in 2 great crosses a game it should be enough for at least 1 goal. I would look at the runs the forwards make next time- we must have more crosses going in than almost any other side in the league, yet the forwards hardly ever seem to move in on them with conviction. More often than not, we seem to have players stood static or running along the same line and we rarely seem to have central midfielders coming in late either. You can't blame Robertson or Elmo for that. Makes you wonder whether we practice any of this in training
Didn't Harper say last season we don't do that much practice in the attacking third? Also Bruce said last season we need to improve our scouting organisation, I hope that's being rectified quickly so we can make ourselves be a bit more successful with forwards brought in.
This has been going on for three years. The quality of the crosses that Elmo, then Brady, and now Robertson put in are of Premiership standard (I dont know what games you're watching Chazz!!) and far better than anything in the Championship. Yet we have no big striker to get on the end of them, a deficiency that Bruce has failed to remedy, and as Swann points out over and over on RH the strikers we do have, other than Hernandez, either do not make the runs to get on the end of them, or all move as a line instead of staggering their runs. This is a massive failure on the part of the Fat Man and his staff. What do we practice in training, and what type of strikers are our scouts looking for??? The likes of Gestede, Crouch, and dare I say it Austin, would have had a field in our team.
They can't be quality crosses if they're putting them into the box for a tall striker to get on the end of! If we haven't a big striker then they should be fizzed crosses for tap ins NO?
Some great deliveries yesterday - a couple on a plate for Aluko, at least one other fizzed across the box - no one gambled. Plus a couple of great corners right under the crossbar. Strikers made too many similar runs - as when Aluko and Dio tripped over each other in the 1st half as another great chance went begging. Positional sense seems to be lacking from our strikers much of the time apart from Hernandez. Our coaching staff could do with a Kevin Phillips type - someone who knew when to take a step back and knew how to be in the right place at the right time.
Agreed. Chris Martin has praised Kevin Phillips since he went to Derby, Martin has knocked goals in in the lower divisions but now some Premier League clubs are looking at him. Still think we need another striker though, if Hernandez gets injured we're stuffed.
I'm knocking yesterday! Just that you can't say robbo & elmo are delivering great crosses for a target man! If we haven't got a big target man then the crosses should be fizzed in or pulled back for our forwards! If that makes sense?
I've been saying since we refused to pay the asking price for Gestede that it was a huge mistake, the amount of headers he would have scored with our quite ridiculous number of crosses would have been silly. I'm pretty sure Elmo put in more crosses than anyone else in the Premier League, pretty pointless when we don't recruit strikers suited to it. Either the style of play should change or the players, Bruce has been playing direct football with players not suited to it for two years and wonders why we're in this situation.
