    I assume you're talking about Patty's post?

Nah, Hull being 8th in a list of greatest cities in the world is funny though.

It might well be, but Hull shouldn't even be in the top 8 in the UK, let alone the world.

The Yorkshire Accent may be a bit rough for some but when I first went to Leicester I fell about listening to them talk. The first question we had to ask a Customer was "Are you a householder"? (Otherwise they would need a guarantor). In Yorkshire this was "Are yer an 'ouse'older"? but in Leicester it came across as "Are you an 'arse'older"?

Santa Barbara - lovely place, spent many a good time there. If you lived there Canada do you remember Alex's Cantina - I took a fond liking to it, mainly because of its name but it had decent live music and was pretty lively.

Yeah I remember Alex's on Lower State just up from the 101 Fwy. Definitely lively like many of the bars in that area. SB was the inspiration for "Just another day in paradise". Closest thing to it that I can imagine.

Whether or not Hull deserves to be on a list like this is open for debate, but one thing is for damned sure, i'd rather be arguing about being on this list than arguing about us being on the ****test town/city list!

Also, I've been to 5 of those 10 cities, Hull, Vancouver, Amsterdam, Wroclaw and Agra, and whilst i'd rate Vancouver and Amsterdam as way out in front, and Wroclaw ahead of Hull, I'd certainly rate Hull above Agra, other than the Taj and a derelict fort it's an utter sh*t hole

The ****test town/city list was only ever compiled by a few ignorant students trying to flog their book, too much was made of it, the tw*ts hadn't even been here.

Whilst I don't believe this guide is meant to be the actual Top 10 World Cities, this would always be NYC,London,Tokyo etc, this Rough Guide list has been properly researched, the assistant Editor Lottie Gross has been up here fact finding etc. Its meant to be a guide of interesting up & coming destinations worth a second look to the decerning traveller and exactly what we should expect leading up to 2017. It validates us as a place of interest rather than placing us in a league table which is still all great stuff of course. We all need to stop underselling our great city right now and get fully behind city of culture.

I have travelled arounda lot and reckon Hull is no better or worse than most other UK cities, most of those that sneer at Hull come from places at least as bad if not worse. In my opinion Hull should not be on the worst cities list but also there is no way it is number 8 in the world either.

Hull is as worthy of a visit as anywhere else but I just wish they had waited until 2017 or at least later this year - has anyone been into the town recently?? the city centre is a complete nightmare and with the closure of some attractions i think 2016 is NOT the time to visit.

    And another one...

The UK's 10 best city breaks

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/europe/uk/12084562/The-UKs-10-best-city-breaks.html

    Hull
Hull is chuffed to be the UK’s City of Culture 2017 and you can sense it. Home to William Wilberforce, Philip Larkin and Tom Courtenay, among others, the city has a picturesque, compact eighteenth-century merchants’ district, due to its status as a major port in the Humber estuary. Best places for nightlife are up near the university or in the arty, entrepreneurial Fruit Market area. More: visithullandeastyorkshire.com

    See/Do
The Maister House (01723 870423; nationaltrust.org.uk/maister-house), an elegant merchant’s home. The the slavery collections at the Wilberforce House Museum (hullcc.gov.uk/museumcollections). Monster aquarium The Deep (thedeep.co.uk). Or book a show at Hull Truck (01482 323638;hulltruck.co.uk), legend of radical theatre.

    Eat
1884 Dock Street Kitchen (01482 222260; 1884dockstreetkitchen.co.uk) on the quayside serves up a great range of North Sea fish and seafood; two course set lunch is £14.

    Stay
Hallmark Hotel Hull (01482 645212; hallmarkhotels.co.uk) is a modern hotel in 17 acres by the Humber Estuary, great for driving down to Spurn Point and the Lighthouse Trail. Doubles from £80.
