We can only be good in it by competing in it. No point spending time training outside it before we do well in it.

 

Nah joy of seeing us winning a trophy will out weight 6 games against a 3 European clubs.

 

Can you recall winning the league cup under Kenny? It want exactly a party atmosphere!

 

Really? I am torn. If the choice really is perpetual participation but not winning the two top trophies (Arsenal might this year but still not holding my breath) then what is the point in all that extra cash? The idea would be to build to an eventual win of course.

At this stage I'd rather build slow and make sure we can do damage eventually than this in, get embarrassed and out again thing we have just done.

Right now, over next couple of years I would take a domestic cup and EL cup while we build the real deal.

Unless we get lucky with cheaper transfers and Klopp somehow builds the big team in such a short space of time...would love it but unlikely.

Know about it but must admit never really knew details, didn't even realise was crashed during take off, not sure why not clued up on it.

Watched half and and recordung to watch rest, but after failing to take off twice can't believe they tried again for a 3rd time and kept having same issues...

Qualifying for the CL is far more important to the club in the long run than winning the League Cup - we need to be in the CL because a) it's the best tournament in football, b) attracts better calibre of player and c) money.

The reason why we want to earn more money is to attract better players. The reason we want to attract better players is because we want to win more trophies.

Merely qualifying for the CL to hit profit targets is just pointless.

Very true but they should be important to us as fans or we become just as as the money men and media idiots.

 

onl yif we can sustain the competition. being in it once is useless.

If we are 4th seeds fine if we can keep being in we will rise up the seedings.

IF we have to walk before we can crawl like spurs have done thats ok too... i'd rather be like spurs looking like they can sustain bot with a decent squad and a history in europe leading to a decent seeding

 

Happy yes, but only as happy as getting fourth. I'm all for winning trophies, its what football is about, but the League Cup is like beating your six year kid at snap!

Couldn't give a **** about people saying "not won a trophy in X years" either.

 

No chance, far happier winning the LC than coming 4th (when was last time that happened anyway )

 

I'd rather get fourth SO LONG as the merits of getting fourth are used properly. If the benefit is going to be pissed up the wall like Brod did then I'd take the League Cup win.

However, it's not its a choice between the two anyway so lets do both!

That goes without saying.

Whether we do well in it or not is a mute point. We'll never know if we are not even in it. This argument that we need only to be there if we think we'll do well does not hold water. When would you know you are ready? When you win the league by several points? and if you come fourth by the skin of your teeth you are not ready?

The aim of getting into the CL has not even been in dispute as far as we are concerned. If we are a big club and view ourselves as one, then we have to be in it or at least compete for it. For me it is not even close. I am not even talking about the revenue. It is about these amazing european nights and the competing with the very best clubs in the world and attracting the top players we want.

Winning stuff is a mentality.

That's why certain clubs never win anything ever.

Liverpool have been badly scarred by Gillette and hicks. I hope fsg have finally learned that being a big club means big club mentality.

Hiring klopp shows they at least realised they had set us on a path to nowhere as a big rep coach means you get a buzz back

The main stand is great but the weak kneed approach to the anfield road end needs to vanish. We have to get to 60k just to keep up with westham and Tottenham.

The thing is winning one thing in a blue moon is the same as once off cl qualification. We need to be building to the future.

Win the league cup or 4th is a bullshit thing. It's not either or. It should be hey we can win this let's win it. Next year klopp might play ten kids in it. This year and last van gaal binned the cup and lost in cl still and came under intense pressure still.

The progression needs to be, hey get a cup if we can in Klopps first year, go as far in europa as we can building coefficient... get as high in league as we can to get some European football.

Then look again.

Frankly look at spurs progression over time. They've fought as hard as us over the same time to get 4th and might this year, if the continue in form.... but uoud think hey can thru sustain it yet?

4th place is a silly little aspiration. And frankly wenger is not after it, he's been building up slowly over past couple of years so they are back to go for 1st place. So are city, and Chelsea should be. Utd are in crisis but van Gaal would say 1st is his target if he had better form.

Us looking at 4th from 7th is small time in my view.

Go win everything you can and stretch yourself always is my view
