Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew eyes deal for QPR's Charlie Austin amid striker crisis CHARLIE AUSTIN has moved to the top of Alan Pardew's New Year hitlist as injuries bite into his Premier League top five push. Pardew, who tried to get Austin last season but was blocked by Rangers, said: "We need a striker, someone who can help keep our run going. We have been in the top five this season and we want to get back there. please log in to view this image "We have been making telephone enquiries all week before the transfer window opens and we are under pressure to get in another striker." The problem was worsened by this week by Patrick Bamford's return to Chelsea with a flea in his ear, after publicly voicing this disappointment that he could not break into the Palace side. "He couldn't get a starting place because we kept winning, and he wants game time," said Pardew, who may enquire about detting another Chelsea striker, Loic Remy, on loan. "There is a lot of difference between scoring goals for Middlesbrough where he got 19 in the Championship last season and the Premier League. "I see no reason why he can't become a top-class player, but he needs to harden up mentally. I hope he can learn from this."
Worrying for those of us who'd like him to stay the season. I tend to believe Austin wants to stay as he said live on TV, but think the Club will want to sell him this window if a decent offer is made. Palace with their table position and location, would probably not get Austin argueing too much either. If only we could have got strikers like that lot... We are also being linked with Bamford.
If Charlie wants to go, go now so we can move on. I don't see the point in staying till the end of season. Be different if we were challenging up the top but that ain't going to happen. We'll be stuck here, middle table for the foreseeable future. I can live with that. JFH needs time .................. we need to give him time. I'd rather we give a bunch of younguns a crack. The only thing that will piss me off is if we don't play with one or two strikers, every week.
As we have no chance of promotion then it's probably time to sell & at least recoup a reasonable fee which can then be re-invested.
Agree, plus the whole will he/won't he saga is getting boring now. He's going sooner or later, so we may as well invest in a replacement (easier said than done).
Bamford isn't the answer, he's too lightweight to play as a lone striker. If we were going with 4-4-2 he might be worth a punt but our options are too limited at present. The failure to bring in another decent striker at the start of the season has really f*cked us...
Palace are overflowing with good strikers and we have one. Can't imagine why we have struggled to push for promotion this year. The failings of Sir Les.
We aren't so far off the relegation zone that we can comfortably sell Austin without a very decent replacement.
How do you know it's a failure of Les? I doubt he was given a budget to buy better strikers than Jet and Polter.
I really don't rate Bamford, drifts more out of games than in. We've had more than our fair share of lazy players in recent times.
19 championship goals last season? Loan? What's the risk, apart from the traditional 'turns to **** as soon as he puts on the Demi hoops'?
You are correct of course, no risk whatsoever, I just think he goes missing in games but 19 leagues goals can't be argued with. His form [or anyone else's that joins us] would disappear down the W12 black hole
What striker would consider us? We have two 'spare' strikers who aren't even picked at times when Austin is out injured. If we're going to take someone, look for another 'Austin'; a lower league striker on the up, with the drive to succeed that Austin has shown.
19 goals in a far better team than we have, he also played off Chris Martin when at Derby. If you provide the service and a quality sidekick he'd be worth a punt but he'd be lost with the service he'd get from our midfield...
well with the ferdinand and hassei;baink and cris ramsey operation we have to drop into the next division then hopefully all you guys on here will realise that managers are not a two a penny commodity you guys refuse to back me up with warnock so would you accept holloway
No....yet another backward step Ted.......I suspect rose tinted specs being used here.... Anyway Ted what the hell has your post got to do with Austin going to Palace? Or are you just using any old excuse to have a pop at Ferdinand/JFH?
