I may be late with this (I was away for a week until Tuesday late p.m.) but: Michael Bailey @michaeljbailey A late night one, but I believe Ivo Pinto was in Norwich for a medical on Wednesday - one step closer to a new right-back. #NCFC please log in to view this image #pinkun
I just learnt that apparently Benfica were keen on Ranocchia and expressed interest in him in early December. I wonder why they haven't been linked to him again recently.
I think you're taking an analogy a little too literally, Cromer, but I can see your point. I've not seen much of Lafferty as a CF except with NI where he does definitely fit, but the 'manager-tactics-squad' dynamic is different than that at City. AN wants a CF who will hold the ball up and lay it off to others following him into the box. Both Jerome and Mbokani do that very well and Grabban isn't that bad either. Hooper does have skills, but his game is really playing with another striker. As for players with more than one option, like Brady or Howson, it's really like they are like two pieces that fit in different places in the puzzle and that's a bonus. It also means that it's sometimes possible to change the tactics without changing the players, like Brady tracking back and defending more when we're under pressure. Not many wingers are as good at defending as he is, thus the bonus. Does that help, or have I made it worse?
AN really is after an early start if players are having medicals before the window even opens. Great news, if true, and MB is usually pretty reliable.
7.3M bid for Ranocchia is now on the BBC website. Says at the end that he isn't sure about the move. Looks like we are trying to be ambitious this window.
At least people can't moan we aren't trying. Of course people will probably moan that we are trying, but I'm glad we are trying to fill the holes in our team.
A salary of ~£42.5 k p/w based on the figures quoted in the article. [EDIT: I see Battersea beat me on the maths...] Google reckons in 2012 he was on a little over half of that, but he signed a new contract with Inter in the summer. I doubt they doubled his salary though, so we're at least offering something competitive with what he's on I would have thought, if not a wage increase. It seems bizarre when your considering Norwich buying an Inter Milan player, but money is probably the easy bit. Convincing him to join a relegation battle in an unfashionable part of England, train in worse facilities, with the risk of having to move on in 6 months if we go down, isn't an easy sell.
supposedly we have bid around 27 million in total now, for pinto, Naismith, Ranocchia, Haller and of course Jarvis. Id love us to have this sort of ambition, but im not sure if i can see it.
For my money, Snodgrass is the best player we have had at Norwich for a very long while and is certainly much better than any winger we have now. His refusal to use his right foot was frustrating and he wasn't pacy but by that logic surely Hoolahan is also the worst player to wear the shirt?
Ooooh, Sabastien Haller!? He's an exciting rumor! Young, target man option, good goal scoring record. Strong, seems to fit the bill for AN. Are we really going to spend all this? Surely some are nonsense, or some are bids because they think other deals arn't set in stone?
