Basically he says he doesn't want to be seen just as a utility player and wants to stake his claim to be first choice right back.

Now despite Simpson's weaknesses there, he is still good and will only improve. For me Ryan Taylor is too aggressive in the tackle and makes himself prone to red cards, he may have good free kicks, but if he is in the team then he has to offer more than just that. Barton's are good and so are Cabaye's apparentely.

For me Ryan Taylor should stay as a utility player along the right hand side, you thoughts?

are you just saying that becuase he got sent off on his comeback, i thnk he is a good attacking player but poor at defence, when he played Rb last time i saw him he was very poor but if he improved his defence then there is no reason why he cant get in there in front of a young simmo, then again gosling could stake a place at Rb and even saylor if willo plays well.

  3. Nah. He's a good RM/CM, good cover for Barton, but he's **** at RB. His tackling is ****, and he's not quick enough IMO.

He's a better crosser and a better player attacking wise than Simmo, but we need a natural RB in the position, not just a RM that justifies his RB spot on the team with his attacking.

If he could defend he'd be perfect at rb because then we'd have him and Barton pinging balls into the box from the right.

I think that's based on the one red card he's got for us?

Also I've only seen him take a couple good free kicks that I can remember. Barton's looked much better from set pieces when not shooting from them.

I'd definately keep him as cover though, unfortuantly for him I think the only time he'l get football is because he can play in a few positions although he's better in midfeild.

Happy with competition for places and I'd rather it come from Taylor than Perch. I've said a few times that I don't think Taylors cut out for right back any more just for a lack of indiscipline seemingly from playing midfield so often, but given Simpsons frequent shakiness and backing off the pair of them vying to improve and take the spot on the team can only be a good thing.

Cracking shot on him from free kicks and open play too, his goals in the cup this year were quality.

Tbh, i'd keep him just so he can't score freekicks against us...which happened about 3 times when he was at Wigan

If Simpson was injured he's still better than Perch but I'd only use Raylor to cover RM/LM/CM/DM, where I think he is decent cover. You need utility players in a successful team.

He's a liability at the back (remember Man Utd at home relegation season)
Decent cover for midfield but definately not good enough to start regularly.

Sounds like " let me think where's there is a weakness in the team i could possibly fill"............sorry but Wigan free kick specialist skills only 2% of a game.

He did say the same thing last season before we bought Perch then towards the end of this season he said he wanted to be a winger and now he's back to RB. Make your mind up Raylor!
