I'm watching the David Beckham documentary on TV at the moment and I can't help but like the bloke, his media training is getting better & better now and people from all around the world have a natural love for him that can't be bought. Would it be prudent to put him forward for a senior role in world football now in either FIFA or UEFA, I believe he could bring some dignity back to the governing bodies that is so badly needed. or is the 'English' FA so badly tarnished in world football that its maybe too soon for him? I believe he could connect the smaller countries back together with a trust for The FA that is currently not there. He's much more the statesman now. Or. is it just me?
There are people who think that Beckham is thick - get past the Estuary accent and you realise that he's far from it The lad is a role model
Enjoyed the documentary,DB in my opinion has always been good for England, just a shame there were not more like him when pulling the shirt on. He has his sights set on Miami and who can blame him,a fantastic place and what a place to own your own football club.
Haven't seen it yet but I think the guy is a bit Joey Essex i.e. maybe a bit limited at the start with but has grown massively over time/the years. A bit not really quite "Tim, nice but dim" but barrow boy made good. Got nothing but respect for those that grow....
My opinion of Beckham was formed by 3 major events; - His refusal to rise and retaliate to the abuse he received, following the Simeone incident. - His solo performance and goal against Greece - he was the only England player on the pitch that day - His dignified response to being dropped by the 'wally-with-a-brolly' and subsequent return Yes he is overhyped and overpaid, he is not the best player - a bit of a 'one trick pony', good at crosses and free kicks but not a lot else, I don't like his wife - and I dislike Man Utd about as much as I do Bristol Rovers (ie I simply don't care about them), but there was nobody else in that particular generation of players who gave as much as he did with pride and passion when wearing the England shirt. He lived and breathed England when he wore those 3 lions. When those 'better' players (ie Scholes, Shearer etc) refused to play for England (but still played for their clubs), Beckham continued determinedly trying to maintain his place. That makes him infinitely more worthy of respect than the others in my book. He also hasn't been blighted by sex, drug or drink scandals which so many other players have (apart from that allegation over the nanny which was never proved) He is indeed a role model and a football icon - in a diseased industry that is afflicted by corruption and scandal of all types, with some pretty unpleasant twats involved in it at all levels of the game, Beckham remains dignified, with a simple, innocent, peasent-like passion for football and his family, that he tries to pass on to everyone he has contact with. Love the guy - football would be SO much better if there were more people like him with his values in it.
Not sure what SAF has to forgive - wasn't it SAF who attacked Beckham in the dressing room - throwing a boot at his face if I remember correctly? If anyone needs to beg for forgiveness its SAF surely? All Beckham is guilty of is having a wife, with her own fortune who is brilliant at marketing, who has helped him turn his global popularity into a lucrative brand which is still thriving now even though his footballing career has ended, whilst other former footballing icons piss theirs up against a wall or gamble them away in casinos or racetracks.
Beckham bit of a one trick pony ... His short passing game is of Pirlo's level. A reason why I would like to see David Beckham being used to improve the technical level of a nation reminiscences not being able to play. The FA could be, should be running skill schools nationally with Beckham at its helm. Sadly he will be setting up a franchise in the USA meaning America will benefi ....
In the current climate I think DB would be a very credible candidate. He could certainly reconcile some fractured elements of the federation, he has a great reputation in Europe and the States which will stand him in good stead. I suspect, however though that his ambitions in bringing MLS to Miami may preclude him this time around as that will consume his efforts right now. Better for him to wait 4 or so years when he can better effect a World Cup coming back to the home of football.
Beckham as an individual is not that bright but as a brand he is the bees knees. He is someone with whom you wish to be associated but as an administrator or manager , no thanks.
Ever since I have been a member of 606 not 606 etc I have always had an infinity to DB .... used to figure in my comments on my profile but cant find them now? if you never meet someone you have 2 choices to comment like dislike if you meet someone you have the same choices if you get to know someone you have the same choices... your opinions are interchangeable ie dislike, like, dislike etc saddest part is if you dislike someone you have never met.......... and only go by what you see, not necessarily just with DB
I like Beckham and funny enough I mentioned the other day on another thread. I can remember when I watched Villa v Man U and Beckham got injured and the Villa fans cheered until they realised he might be injured for the upcoming England v Germany game, then the cheers turned to concern. His wife IMO is a fantastic sales person who has made herself a fortune in her own rights and that sometimes alienates people towards her. Some think it's down to DB that made her but forget, crap as they were she was the untalented one in one of the biggest if not the biggest girl bands from this country. Would I want DB associated with our club, I would rip the hand of him in appreciation. Can you imagine what he would bring to any club he's associated with.
