http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2015/december/27/jokanovic-appointed Fulham Football Club Chairman Shahid Khan today issued the following statement: “I am extremely proud to announce that Slaviša Jokanović will be joining Fulham as our First Team Head Coach. I'm Not impressed by this Joke.
Well I'm just glad we have got someone at last - took long enough. Let's hope he can turn this ship round.
A good appointment but we have lost so much ground and confidence, making the task very difficult. If we now get to a comfortable mid table position, it will be a success, unfortunately. I must say 58, the photo is very fulhamish COYW's
The news was announced by Maccabi Tel Aviv immediately after the Israeli team won 5-0 at home to Hapoel and it’s not clear when Jokanovic will fly to London. Which makes it very unlikely he’ll be in the dugout on Tuesday. Hopefully though, all the stops will be pulled out to get him to the Cottage in time for the kick off and give the players and the fans a much needed lift. The compensation fee is said to be 500,000 euros (£367k) and Joka is bringing assistant Javier Pereira and analyst Alberto Escobar with him … to work alongside “Stu”. However, no word yet on his contract term although Joka is reported on the Maccabi official site saying, "There's a very important job in London coming up with Fulham and I am looking for stability and I hope to be there a very long time." Well this is his 6th club in 2 years, which coincides with our 6 ‘managers' in 2 years, so for all our sakes let’s hope there is indeed a period of permanence.
Hola! Woke up to this news this morning. I like the look of this guy. Decent mid-table finish this year would be perfect and kick on next year. I hope that is the plan rather than Rigg expecting him to win the League or get us up via the play-offs this year and then getting rid when he doesn't.
Don't know if you've had a chance yet to read the "Message from the Chairman" on the Official site. All good sounding stuff and well crafted to lead us fans believe that the last 50 days were carefully planned. Whatever, wouldn't it have been so much better if even a smidgen of this had been said during that period (like the in-house definition of 'head coach)? Certainly would have helped reduce the vitriol seen on social media over that period and the apathy, beginning to escalate into anger, among Club supporters. I'm also left curious about no reference to FFP and the transfer embargo, coupled with Mr Khan saying "we were able to take a closer look at various players and line-ups and probably know our Club’s potential and areas of need a bit better today than we did several months ago." Don't quite see how that stacks up and the whole seems to be highly critical of past performance by Club management. The extremely pleasing thing however, is Mr Khan giving precedence to Jimmy Hill. I know I would have gone in the end, but I had seriously considered not going tomorrow night because I feared that the atmosphere would be so toxic it would completely overwhelm memories and tributes to Jimmy. Thankfully the appointment of Joka will mean a return to the old Fulham optimism (well some of it anyway) and we can give JH a proper send off. Here's a link to Khan's bit : http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2015/december/28/a-message-from-the-chairman
The Joke I referred too was Rigg & Khan trying to spin (BS) us that he was the candidate who came to the top of a long list. Then why haven't they told us how long his contract is for!!!! as they normally do with players and managers. Khan is now trying to spin us that he is going to have an input to the transfers, yet we have an embargo till after the window with loan exceptions. I believe Stuart Gray was brought in as a Senior Coach and if he had had a better effect on results would have been given charge now as Head Coach. Because why would he give up a good post at Sheff Wed ? for a unsure future, as it would seem that Jokanovic is bringing with him two assistants. Will Gray turn into another disgruntled employee Like all Fulham managers I will give the new man a chance. All I want from them is to be able to compete and perform better this season than they have been doing, forget talk of top 6 finish that would be a monumental turn around (although I still believe most teams are on a level par in this Division). In his managerial career Jokanovic doesn't seem to have stayed very long in any post. In his Watford post he inherited a team that were mainly made up of Udinese players and other loaned players and although he did well, when it came to the top Championship teams of the 14/15 season he didn't do well against them. I'm not convinced he is a long term fix, but he does seem to fit the remit of Rigg or was that Khans. Well you did ask
Yeah, thx for that! I agree about the BS. The pr department haven't exactly excelled over the last year. The club need to work hard to get the fans onside again. I think Joka is a good fit for us.
If they had held the announcement back a few hours and made it today, it would have been on the seventh anniversary of Roy Hodgson's appointment. Not that that makes any tangible difference, but it would have been a happy coincidence. I'm more pleased by this appointment than I expected to be after it had all dragged on for so long. As some others have said above, success for this s a son, sadly, is simply steadying the ship, getting safe and laying the foundations for, hopefully, a proper run at promotion in 2016-17. At least we've got someone whose record suggests that to be plausible.
I don't believe it but I heard 6 month contract - to keep us up and then an option I'd suggest for a longer period. Let's be honest he has pedigree taken a team up from nothing look at the foundations he built at Watford if it takes him a year or two so be it. I think we want to see us getting results I think he'll do that for us.
6 months if true, just about sums the owner, Directors and Rigg up. Finally getting (allegedly) the man they wanted and giving him 6 months. The long term vision of the Directors and owner comes to the fore again.
He had six months left on his contract with Maccabi - makes us fairly generous in the compensation money paid! However, understand his contract with us is in fact two-and-a-half years with a one year extension at the Club's discretion and largeish incentives if we get promoted. COYW
I suspect they played hard ball and we had to buy out the remainder of his contract. We certainly gave off the impression of being completely desperate and having no plan B.
Sounds right. So he was on just over £750k pa with them (a little less than Rigg) - wonder what we've agreed to pay him!? Worth every penny I'm sure. Although we might have to offload some of our current wage bill, what with whatever he's on and his assistants and "Stu", to satisfy FFP. Curbs for one, R... ?
I had been told that his contract was " two and a half years with a one year extension", so thought the extension was additional not inclusive. Sorry about my misinterpretation since I now see from Joka's interview posted by the Club (the link in the 'Joka's First Start' thread) that the initial contract is 18 months. Not quite as good perhaps, although it's debatable what a contact actually means these days. For sure though what it does give, is time on both sides to work together and if the remainder of this season goes well the opportunity to extend for longer. And "push on together" as Joka said.
