from SAFC: 'Sunderland's away clash at the Liberty Stadium will now take place on Wednesday 13 January. Sunderland AFC’s forthcoming game against Swansea City has been moved by the Premier League and will now take place 24 hours later than originally scheduled. The Black Cats face their longest away trip of the season for the mid-week fixture and the game, which was to be played on Tuesday 12 January, will now take place at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday 13 January, at 7.45pm. The change was made at Swansea’s request due to their Emirates FA Cup third round fixture being played on Sunday 10 January, leaving only two days between that game and the scheduled league fixture. Sunderland AFC strongly opposed the game being moved and made strenuous representations to the Premier League to that effect. Sunderland face three consecutive away fixtures in a seven day period - Arsenal in the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday 9 January (3pm), Swansea on Wednesday 13 January (7.45pm) and Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday 16 January (an early kick off at 12.45pm) - meaning Black Cats fans will travel almost 2,000 miles in just one week to support their team. The Premier League have ruled that Swansea City must reimburse ticket and travel costs incurred by Sunderland fans who have already purchased match tickets, should they be unable to attend on the rearranged date. Tickets for the Swansea game have been subsidised by £10 each by Sunderland AFC and are priced at £25 for adults and £7.50 for supporters aged over 65 and under 16, and full-time students.'
Precious ****ing Swansea can't be inconvenienced can they? Two games in four days one of which is at home is too much to ask isn't it? But 3 away games in 7 days is perfectly fine, lets inconvenience them! We'll just live out the ****ing boot of the coach, eat **** in a **** tray from ****ing laybies and not train all ****ing week. ****ing disgraceful. Think our scheduled should have been given the priority given it's us flogging ourselves up and down all week. If Tuesday was best for us it should be played on a ****ing Tuesday as originally scheduled.
Swansea: 10th Oxford (A) 13th Sunderland (H) 18th Watford (H) (8pm kick off MNF) Sunderland: 9th Arsenal (A) 13th Swansea (A) 16th Spurs (A) So we have 3 in a week - they have 3 in 8 days - All of ours are away yet 2 of theirs are at home? What the **** is this all about? Surely our schedule should be prioritised as it's OUR fans and players which are suffering? Personally hope he plays the reserves against aRSENAL - Swansea game is much more important!
I was looking at Booking.com yesterday and almost clicked 'confirm'. I'd guarantee if I was the SAFC club secretary people wouldn't be messing us about like this.
Not sure what the major issue is here. Surely the draw for the cup has caused the issue and was beyond control? Had we got a home draw there'd be no problem. Seems reasonable to give Swansea the extra day to recover, at no real cost to our team. I can understand those fans who have paid up are inconvenienced but they're being reimbursed, no? I suppose they could have made the decision earlier, is that the main issue?
It's not the draw per se but the fact that Swans are playing on the Sunday - yet again TV not caring as long as they get the viewing figures. Surely another game could be put on the Sunday
I keep looking at the fixtures to decide what to do ............ I'm still no further forward. What do I do, I want to go to every game in January which will be a massive undertaking. January will be when my club needs me most, mess that up and it's over.
Just about sums up TV's grip on the game. Who in their right mind would choose to broadcast a live cup game of Oxford v Swansea but ignore other more attractive fixtures such as ours against Arsenal?
Problem is the club doesn't depend on us, otherwise judging by some on here we'd be champions league year in year out
Whether it's a case of them valuing the support, being reminded that we're watching or me satisfying a need I'm happy to be there. If it was just a case of watching football matches I'd watch them all on a free stream from where I'm sitting now.
Yes but why us it reasonable to give them the extra day? They are at home. We are away. Three times! They have two home games. The premier league have sanctioned it. If it was at Sunderland I can guarantee they'd have said tough luck
A regional broadcaster calling the shots over a national game. As I say just sums up TV's grip on the game.
Somewhere in the code of conduct of the premier league I think there is a rule that a team can have 72 hour respite between games so they have exercised that option correctly. We could do the same if a fixture of ours is moved in a similar way. Swing s and roundabouts unfortunately.
