As a companion thread to DTs best single album thread, what was the first music you ever bought, or stole if applicable? Mine: Single - All the Young Dudes by Mott the Hoople Album - Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars - David Bowie Both 1972 I think, when I was 11. Good start, I listen to them still. But I bought a lot of old crap after that.
The first music I remember buying myself was the Beatles For Sale album. I think it was six and eightpence.
I should add that this will be a strictly non judgemental thread, except for anyone who bought Mull of Kintyre or Sailing.
Album. De La Soul - 3 feet high and rising Single. Smiths - There is a light that never goes out (What the **** was I like at 8!!)
1st single - Peter Gabriel 'Solsbury Hill' 1st album - Kraftwerk ' Trans Europe Express' (Still great after all these years )
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours (teenage crush on Stevie Nicks !! and that continued well into adulthood) Not on Rumours, but this was pretty awesome back in '76 (still is !!)
My first album was a Monkees compilation. Pretty sure the first single was Rock and Roll Part One by Gary Glitter!!
First single: Gangsters by The Specials, which I heard on the radio and went straight out and bought. 1979 First Album: Talk Talk Talk by The Psychedelic Furs with my first wage packet. 1981 Both from Slough Record Centre on the Farnham Road, a favourite teenage haunt of mine...
I didn't know I loved you til I saw you rock n roll Gary Glitter May of got the Glitter album as well but I didn't stop playing it for years 1971 I think Stick the horrible crap we know now out of your mind and this is still a fine record
If anyone did the glitter songs in a new format they could smash it Remember singing Come On Come On on the terraces before looking forward to a punch up ... Never knew who I was hitting as I was blind Looking back it was nonsense
My 1st single was a double purchase of don't you want me baby by the Human league and spirits in a material world by the police. I was five or six years old! Happy days
lol, my Dad played Suzi Quattro endlessly, so my early years (musically) were dominated by Suzi Q !!!
Single - I was 10 years of age, it was 1971, Another Day by Paul McCartney & Wings. Bought it as a single ( played on 45RPM if I'm correct ) Album - 1976 - Frampton Comes Alive by Peter Frampton ............... still love the album. I was trying to write the lyrics whilst playing the record .................... my mum & sister saw what I wrote down afterwards and accused me of being on drugs! Footnote - The benefits of having an older brother was that he bought most of the music. My bludging started at an early age.
