Form figures; 9122333233621322 What do you reckon guys, the biggest dodgepot in racing or just an unlucky beast. In reality these are my genuine form figures in the ATR AW tipping competition this Winter. You really wouldn't want my luck would you. Oh....and if any of you are thinking of suggesting I back all my selections tote-place...............
Quite frustrating having that many 2nd and 3rds, and I know the feeling. I don't know what sort of prices you are selecting, but if they are reasonably well fancied in the market chances are if they don't win they'll be in the first 3. So it's kind of normal to have a lot of 2nd and 3rds when your on a bad run. Hopefully your luck will change soon
On these figures, he doesn't have the pace or the trackcraft for AW racing. Cut him and try him over a hurdle.
Would you settle for those scores being from your last round of golf stick...?? Though you had a shocker on the first...!!!
I keep a list of all my bets during the Flat season so that I know how much I won or lost; and I can analyse where I went wrong. In 2015, I made a small loss and my analysis made it easy for me to see where it all went pear-shaped: Not So Glorious Goodwood and a miserable Ebor meeting. Over the course of the Goodwood week, I backed 11 horses to win. The results were: 2nd @ 10/1; 1st @ 9/4 (Toormore); Unplaced @ 7/1; 4th @ 6/1; 3rd @ 8/1; 2nd @ 9/2; 3rd @ 7/1; 4th @ 5/1; 2nd @ 5/2; Unplaced @ 11/1; Unplaced @ 5/1. So that makes a string of 21043234200, which makes me even more ungenuine! I have no doubt that some folks would back 7/1 or bigger each way, but an each-way bet for me has to pay Evens for a place so I rarely bet each-way at 12/1 (1/4 odds), more likely 16/1. If I had backed all 29 of the placed horses that I had this season each-way, I would have lost less money on those that were less than 5/1 and shown a profit on the longer priced ones but I would also have halved my winnings on the 10 winners that I would have backed each-way because they were more than 4/1. Mathematically, each-way betting has no upside.
Fortunately I back horses as a pastime. If I win I buy something if I lose I don't. I bet only cash as online betting stretches my inner trust.
I only bet as a pastime myself, also stay away from the easily-tracked online betting and very rarely do multiple bets. The best year I ever had was back in the 1990s when the bookies paid for a new stereo system from my winnings, most of which was the result of landing a £7 patent at the Newmarket July meeting for £300. I just like to keep a record of what I have backed over the season so that I can refine my selection process to try and weed out the losers the following year. The first thing I noticed years ago was how I would almost automatically go and back a horse if I had backed it last time and it had placed. I stopped doing that and it reduced my outlay and the loser count.
I kept refining my betting strategy to eliminate losers and I ended up not betting at all. Haven't lost a bean since
Nice to be free too isn't Ron? It took about 35 years to cut myself loose, and I must say, I feel fantastic about it. The great Martin Luther King used this quote for more pressing matters, but I'm sure he'd have no problems with us using it now. “Free at last, Free at last, Thank God almighty we are free at last."
