When we drop past your lot I will start to think top 4 could be gone because 9th is a long way to come back from

 

4th is gone, utd are 5th.

So, utd 9 points off top spot can win the title according to the manager/players/fans but us a mere 5 points(possibly 2 tomorrow) can't attain a top 4 spot?

Wasn't talking points, was talking league place and teams in between.
We have Spurs, City, Arsenal and Leicester in front of us. Spurs are a big threat, City are always 1/2 injuries away from collapse (Aguero and Kompany), Arsenal have February to face, Leicester could be a big threat.
You have Watford (like Leicester, could be a threat) then Westham and Palace (both about par with you) then United and Spurs (both better than you).
If we drop below you into 9th then I feel there would be just too many teams to get past into top 4.
