I think its common sense to take that approach but football is so stuck in its ways that something as drastic as this will never be considered. Footballs reluctance to evolve is starting to ruin the game as a spectacle especially as the cynicism and winning at all cost tactics are becoming ever more common.

Maloney ****ed that up. Meyler had their entire half in front of him and waited for the pass in order to stay onside. Maloney should have put it well in front of him to run onto but the ball was short and it slowed him down having to wait for it. Meyler would have smashed it home with a better pass.

Bloody Hell - imagine the stick he would have got for doing that - both in the ground and on these boards!

I read something before that if the ref actually stopped the clock on every occasion the ball wasn't "live" there would be something like 20 minutes a half stoppage time. It sounded far fetched at first, but if you take a menta note during a game I bet you wouldn't be far away.

It's actually stupid the ball boys don't know to waste time/take longer when we're winning late in a game. As a part of their role, they should understand football.

I remember Richard Keys saying it on Sky when they used to get Dermott Gallagher in for Andy Gray's The Last Word after Super Sunday's. They used to talk about a lot of things well before others caught up - they suggested vanishing spray a good 6-7 years before we actually brought it in.

Just throwing this out there......How about we dont stop the game for substitutions, like in RL they have the interchange, now I'm not suggesting we have 10 subs allowed etc, still keep the 3 subs. Just switch the players as play goes on?

That would confuse the hell out of everybody, player on the opposite side of the field coming off & play continued down that side, he'd never get off.
    Sorry terrible idea.

There are enough stoppages in football i.e. free kicks, corners, goal kicks to enable a player to run off the field whilst the other runs on. It works in RL, that doesnt mean to say it work football I know, but its something that could trailed. The player going on has his inspection done by the 4th official, stands with him until there is break in the game and the players just swap.

Like I said, I'm just throwing it out there and I don't ever think it would happen.

Ok I don't watch RL so just assumed it was running on & off while the games going on! A bit like Basketball!

I get you, but I don't think clubs should be doing that. It's cheating. I remember Sheff Utd ballboys used to throw an extra ball on the pitch to prevent opposition teams taking a quick throw. I think that's why the multi ball system is no longer allowed to be used.

It would be much easier if the clock was stopped & started by the ref, so that when it hit 90, that's literally it! Won't ever happen though!
