Just got back form the pics. Wow, what a mess that film was. Bad pacing, script. Scenes spliced together badly, poor editing. Way too much hype on this one. Yup, I love the originals, hate the prequels. This was a fair bit in front of the latter, but a million miles behind the former. Did seem a bit Star Trekky too.
I loved it, really brought it back to the "lo-fi" 70s roots, you really thought it could have been made by industrial light and magic in the 80s, none of the prequel FX crap. Totally cheesy, as you would expect, but Rey is a fantastic protagonist, and, most importantly, no stupid and annoying characters!
But there was FX crap here. Snoke, Maz and the guy giving Rey food for salvaged parts all looked stupid and no better than Sebulba, Watto and Boss Nass. Also, Daisy Ridley is as wooden as Natalie Portman was. I can't understand the Rey love-in. It must be the force-sensitive elements to her character blinkering fans here.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens The force almost sent me to sleep. I remember when I slated The Phantom Menace and still to this day people say it is amazing. The Force Awakens is a massive let down (Okay, maybe for only me at least and at this point of time). As the credits rolled, the sense of disappointment in the theatre was tangible. No buzz and no one was talking about it as we exited. Although one lad of about 12 punched the air. Not sure if he was just pleased he could go for a massive piss tho
Where the hell did you go see it? Because my screening definitely loved it. Also, who the **** to this day says Phantom is amazing? So do I. This certainly was not one. You're taking the piss. Fair enough, you didn't like it, that's fine. There are definitely some flaws and everyone is entitled to their opinion. But you're saying some proper troll ****e.
Really? Troll ****e? I think not. Why are you being so precious? It's only a film. You think the film was great. Fair enough. I think it was ****e. Why the attitude? Wow. ****Spoiler alert**** ****2nd warning - spoilers!!!**** ***Third and last!!!!**** . . . . . . .. . . . . . Some good plotting though... We have obviously not seen Han and Leia's relationship with Kylo Ren. So it negates any sense of feeling when she's on about bringing their son back to her. How can we care when we've only seen him murder people? (Like The Phantom Menace, this film has started half way through a story!). So, Han says to her that their son is beyond saving as he has too much Vader in him. So what does Han do? Walk out onto a ****ing gantry alone with Ren and his light-sabre. Dumbass Solo. Is that a trolling comment?
Uh oh, seems someone forgot this was the first part a trilogy and didn't have all his questions answered and seems to think we should know everything from the get go. And I'm sorry, but doesn't A New Hope start in the middle of a story too? Ignoring the fact that Vader turned back to the light are we? Also Ren was quite clearly conflicted - which shows Han could've turned him, so it wasn't a dumbarse move at all. Goodnight. She's getting universal praise from near enough ever reviewer out there, so I'd love to see these reviews.
Well I have only read a few and it was a complaint repeated in more than a few of them. Im not bothered to go and look and find them for you, as its dangerous enough as people will toss in spoilers at this point. Ill give my own opinion in a couple days.
Blimey. You really have thrown your toys out the pram. 'Goodnight'? Snigger. Yeah, this is the first part of a trilogy. So we're going to have to wait 2 years at least to see some scenes that refer back to the gap between eps 6 & 7 so the unanswered questions in 7 are answewered? Heh, good luck with that. But you may be right. The new director may try to right some of Abram's wrongs. Also, Ren was conflicted? How so? Murdering innocent villagers? Comically smashing up Star Destroyer rooms when he gets bad news? Torturing Poe and Rey? But if you manage to pick a hole in that, Han Solo said Ren couldn't be saved. He didn't watch The Force Awakens, so why the hell would he go out onto the gantry to try and save him? Cloudy plotting, poor scripting, dodgy performance from Ridley. Poor all round. No offence, Quill. Not a dig at you (although you seem to take it that way).
Quill - thanks for the alerts - I didnt read your post - but lets have any spoilers on a completely separate thread please. If I want to keep reading this thread somebody could easily quote your post and I miss the alerts. Please shift it or this thread is dead to anyone who doesnt want a spoiler. Thanks.
Actually mate, I said goodnight as I were off to bed. Like a normal person. I guess you didn't listen to any of the dialogue Ren had then if you don't think he was conflicted. Spoiler One of the great things about that moment (and, incidentally, one of many reasons that makes the whole thing the exact opposite of "cheap") is the way it emphasizes and completes Han's character's arc - from the cynic rogue whose main interest was "the reward" to a man, heroically willing to risk his life, - in a moment when he doesn't really have to - in order to bring back his own son. I put an emphasis on the fact that he didn't have to go there and talk with Kylo, because this really underlines how it is an act born out of pure, selfless, paternal love. Han and Chewbacca were done setting the explosives and Kylo was walking in the opposite direction. They could've just leave the place, blow it up and reach the Falcon - maybe even killing Kylo, in the process. Or the screenwriters could have played it differently, having Han sacrifice himself in order to give the others time to run away. Instead, they went with a man (who, once, "shot first") risking everything to save the son who betrayed everything Han and Leia (and Luke) believed in and fought for. And I feel there's nothing more noble and heroic (and deeply human) than that. I won't keep arguing, as you clearly seem to be beyond reasoning. Like I said at the start, if you didn't like it, that's fine. There are definitely some flaws and everyone is entitled to their opinion.
For anyone wondering, you can hide spoilers by doing the same thing you do for quotes, but swap 'Quote' for 'Spoiler'.
I thought she did a fine job, I dont agree with the reviews that I read. If I was going to critique anyone's acting it would be Carrie Fisher's. I have only seen it once, ill see it again this week sometime. Right now I would say its easily the 2nd best Star Wars movie and I dont think that it is really that far off from being number one.
I saw it today, on IMAX in 3D! I loved it! Absolutely brilliant, if you haven't seen it, then don't listen to any rumours, although rumours won't spoil it, they'll just change the way you might feel, any moment that the rumours might actually affect. I didn't realise it was Saturday & 2:30 showing that we'd booked until I realised it was Saturday & Hull was playing. I was annoyed, but then I had to see the movie & as the result panned out, I'd have been more annoyed if I'd have decided a different day just to watch Sky Sports News online & that result at the end of it all!
