There's not too much in today's paper - Sean Dyche says "Left Back is not a priority" apparently he is happy with Doyley at LB. But 2 pictures caught my eye: Yeates & Iwelumo at Colchester in 2006 - Yeates has many chins after eating all of the pies, and Iwelumo looking more like Zaha at Palace! And then there is the picture of Loach punching a high ball under pressure from a packed Watford defence (and just 2 Wealdstone forwards). Have I ever seen so many grounded Watford players defending a high ball? Some of you were asking if Dyche has changed the style of defending. No we are still crowding Loach with as many Watford players as possible, with the ensuing panic - even against non league Wealdstone. Some things don't look like improving any time soon ......
So youre deriding Dyche's defensive tactics on the evidence of one photo? The first group of pre-season friendlies are purely for gaining match-fitness, focus on tactics will come later and im sure we'll see improvement in all areas.
With regards to the defending at corners... I think at the moment it wil be 'play how you know' until Dyche can stamp his own ideas on the team. Time will tell if SD adopts the same tactic as MM. You'd like to think he is experimenting with different tactics in training, and that will start showing in the next couple of games - but until people have practised their new roles, not too much will change.
I've got to say that the photo of Mark Yeates is not very flattering.......a face only a mother could love! BUT this isn't a beauty contest, and if he scores goals I will personally kiss his bald pate! Ha!
Actually its Neil Dannes now of Leicester rather than Big Chris... Not sure what Yeates looked like in 2006. As for defending corners..cannot see that changing considering Dyche would have had the idea alongside Malky but at least we might have a bit more height and physicall presence to defend if all 11 have to come back.
If Yeates can have his best season in terms of goalscoring and creating goals for others while eating all the pies I will happily let him have Duke's old allowance.
