Michael Dawson is likely to be out for five to six weeks with the knee injury picked up in Saturday’s victory against Bolton Wanderers. Scans this afternoon revealed that the defender has a grade two tear of his medial ligament, meaning he will miss the Tigers’ festive fixture schedule as well as the first few games of 2016. The injury comes after Dawson had only just recovered from a hamstring problem and manager Steve Bruce admits it’s disappointing to lose his captain once again. “For him to come off feeling his knee in the way he was – we were expecting it to be at least a month,” said Bruce. “He’s a big player for us and unfortunately we’re going to be without him, but we have to cope with that.” http://www.hullcitytigers.com/news/...to-six-weeks-2851608.aspx#1WvHJQro42yRQmfY.99
Michael Dawson expected to be missing a month for Hull City please log in to view this image Hull City are expecting captain Michael Dawson to be ruled out for "at least a month" after suffering a knee injury in Saturday's 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers. Dawson had only just returned from three weeks out with a hamstring problem when he was forced off late in the weekend victory at the KC Stadium. City remain uncertain over the full extent of their skipper's injury as he undergoes scans today but manager Steve Bruce expects to be without Dawson for the festive campaign. "We'll not know until later on this afternoon but for him to come off and feel the weight on his knee the way he did, we're expected at least a month I would think," Bruce told Sky Sports this morning. "That's the downside of Saturday, as soon as he came back into the team. He's a big player for us but we have to be without him." Dawson will miss Wednesday's clash with Reading and Saturday's trip to Rotherham United. If City's fears are realised, he will also be on the sidelines for the Boxing Day clash with Burnley at home, the trip to Preston on December 28 and the New Year's Day clash at QPR. With Alex Bruce ruled out for a similar period with a back injury suffered at Leeds nine days ago, it leaves Curtis Davies and Harry Maguire as City's only fit central defenders for the busiest spell of the season. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Mich...tory-28361559-detail/story.html#ixzz3uIl3PuTA
Who would actually play centre back if one of Davies or Maguire gets injured in the next couple of weeks then?
Forgot about Hayden. I've seen it mentioned that Taylor can play there but I can't imagine it myself. Did he ever play there for previous clubs?
Or Huddlestone. Im pretty sure I watched his debut - or at least one of his first games - for Derby as a 16 year old and he played centre back. According to Wiki he has also played at cb numerous times for Spuds and England U21s.
He did play there for Newcastle apparently, but not very often, probably no more than in an emergency like he would be doing for us. Hayden has played regularly at centre back, mainly for the U21's but he played there for Arsenal a year ago against Saints.
Huddlestone started off his career as a CB. I think that he is probably better suited to a CB, it might make him pass the ball forward more often with the goal keeper his only backwards pass option.
It does seem odd that he's not used there more. He's got all the attributes as long as he's played alongside somebody who is a bit nippy. I reckon he could resurrect his career if he went back to it. The other one I always said was playing the wrong position was Jozy Altidore. Why neither he nor none of his numerous managers can see he's much better as a winger than a main striker is beyond me. The only time he's every looked good is running with the ball at his feet and he's got a ****ing lethal cross on him while he cant finish for ****.
He can't really tackle, which I would have thought was a fairly important attribute for a centre back.
If he cant tackle then why is he playing in centre midfield where by far and away most tackles are made?
