I'm not sure. Does he put the cones out? Seems to have little input to me - another job for an old boy.
Someone told me that his role is similar to the role played by the Bradley Walsh character in Mike Bassett England Manager...
Put the cones out! You are demeaning a Swansea leg end.Had the pleasure of meeting and to talking to him and his wife in the reception area of Wembley prior to the Autoglass Final many years ago. A real gent ,who took time to engage with us fans.
On a lighter note, when asked if he would like to have gone with Roberto to Wigan Alan replied" No I'm the only one who knows where the kettle is ". Respect.
Swans caretaker Alan Curtis has promised his team will fight and scrap for everything at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday in search of vital Barclays Premier League points. Curtis, who has been involved with the club for 40 years in various capacities as player and coach, will front the team at Manchester City following the departure of Garry Monk and three members of his backroom team this week. Hailed as a ‘legend’ in the city, Curtis is determined not to let the Swans fans down after a difficult start to a campaign with 14 points from 15 games. “It’s been a difficult few days for everyone,’’ explained Curtis, who scored 95 goals from 359 league appearances for the Swans. “We are all used to managers leaving because sadly that has always been part of the game. But Garry’s departure seemed a lot more personal to everyone because he has been at the club so long, together with Kristian O’Leary. “We all feel - staff and players - that we have let him down and we want to go a small way to rectifying that on Saturday. “Some may say it’s too late because Garry’s already gone, but we also have a massive duty and responsibility to the club and our supporters. They haven’t been through many difficult periods over the last 10 years, but we want to rectify this one as soon as possible. “Yes, we are on a bad run, but we won’t be going to the Etihad just to make up the numbers and get the fixture out of the way while we wait for a new manager to come in. “We need every point we can and we will strive to be competitive and get something out of a difficult game." Curtis will take a near full-strength squad to Manchester with only Franck Tabanou (thigh) out and striker Eder rated doubtful having missed the 3-0 defeat to Leicester with an ankle injury. “We have had two lively training sessions on Thursday and Friday. The boys trained well,’’ added the former Welsh international. “The whole squad is together and they want our fans to see them fighting and scrapping for everything. It’s the least they deserve.’’ READ MORE . . .
Well....that's why he's paid a phenomenal salary then. Thanks for clearing that up. Do we now give jobs to everyone who is a "Swansea legend" or can "engage" with the fans? When our team is struggling, apparently with limited funds due to soaring salaries with over 500 employees and is in danger of relegation it is perfectly justifiable to ask what an employee does - legend or not. You don't have a monopoly on meeting him either. He's a lovely guy, but that shouldn't be a criteria. If he brings something to the table and contributes then fine. I honestly don't know his role (as it was). If it was coaching then why is nobody criticising him for this disastrous run? Teflon legend if so. If not then what does he do?
Well you never know, stranger things have happened.... maybe a point or more is not too unrealistic. ManCity will be expecting an easy stroll and may be complacement, and they played mid-week. There could also be a positive reaction from our players despite all that's gone on this week. There will hopefully be some looking to impress the new manager coming in. Gomis may even be panicking!
Alan has gone on record as saying he would not like to be manager and is only helping out. Who would you like to be in charge tomorrow ? Cyril the Swan. .
I didn't say he shouldn't be caretaker, Pete. There's no other ****er to do it. Seems it's an easy ride not to take any responsibility for anything and 'help out'. I'm actually fine with that if he contributes. I'm still not sure what he does. As I said, if it's coaching then why is he still here? If not then what does he do? I know other clubs do it but I hate the idea of jobs for the boys unless they have a unique experience that makes them suitable for the role. We seem happier than other clubs to do this.
I said it's not clear what he does and I honestly don't know. I also said I'm fine with him "if he contributes". Us paying fans PAY HIS SALARY and saying "he's a legend" doesn't cut it. Neither does being a nice guy. If he's been an active coach why is he exempt from criticism over where we are? If not, what does he do? We are told we are very short of money due to salaries - so do we pay someone for contributing or being a legend? You can't have it both ways.
Last time I saw he was on the coaching staff. Obviously Huw has the confidence for him to step into the job temporarily.
OK, if he coaches then he hasn't been doing a good job has he? Legend or not. I'm not necessarily saying fire Curtis but he seems exempt from any criticism and it's all a bit too cosy for me.
