As stated elsewhere its Mr Henderson’s 65th birthday tomorrow so how wonderful, and fitting, it would be if the forum’s favourite trainer had a winner. But will he, I say, will he??? Thought I’d consider the evidence. Beware the Bear (2.00 Warwick) – this 5YO Shantou gelding had his first run for Mr Henderson and his first over hurdles at the back-end of October and he ran a race full of credit when runner-up at Uttoxeter (44 lengths clear of the 3rd home). With that experience behind him and having subsequently enjoyed the attention of Mr Henderson’s ‘magic hands’ and brilliant brain expect Beware The Bear to open his account here. Looks potentially a very nice staying prospect. Poetry Emotion (3.30 Warwick) – this gelding put up a much less promising effort first time out, back in May, when trailing in 9th over tomorrow’s course and distance. Actually showed very little that day as he weakened from 3 furlongs out and finished some 26.25 lengths behind the eventual winner. On that performance Poetry Emotion looks up against it tomorrow but in the ‘plus column’ he has 7 months to strength up plus had the benefit of Mr Henderson’s ‘magic hands’ and brilliant brain. This heat does look above average though and its going to be quite tough for him here, methinks. Incidentally, it was won last year by subsequent Grade 2 winner, Barters Hill. To answer my poser then I think Mr Henderson will have a birthday winner with Beware The Bare. Can see it being much, much tougher for Poetry Emotion but as we all know re Mr Henderson and a horse – anything is possible. Good luck all.
I see Jim best is sending KIAMA BAY all the way up north to Geordie land yes he is Evens but he must surely win for him to be sent pretty much a 16 hour round trip minimum
Nice little newcomers bumper at Taunton tomorrow which sees the racecourse bow of Simonsig's half brother DRUMCLIFF who will most likely be at least half decent. The conditions of the race however weigh it very favourably toward the three year olds and the chubby ones CAPITAINE looks like it ticks all the boxes.
Hopefully Punchy gets the go ahead and we finally get to see this Min rascal in action.Im on 16s ante post for the Supreme and I know there are a few on here at 25s so it will be interesting to see how the old boy gets on.
Incredible achievement again by Wenger to qualify from the champions league first stage yet again. If they can hold onto 4th spot in the league again it will be another amazing achievement. 4th place and qualification from the first group stage again - arsenal fans must be over the moon.
I cannot understand why Arsenal fans criticise Wenger. His record is superb. They will only appreciate him properly when he's gone. Double at punchy tomorrow i like BLAZER & Daneli. Presently pays about 6/1.
I think it depends on what sort of club you feel Arsenal are? If they are a top tier and should be winning titles like Man Utd and Chelsea then Wenger has not delivered, although he has done well and gone close as we would say in racing. If however the club are not a big club then he is a fantastic manager for consistently retaining champions league football. Essentially if they are on par with Man Utd then these last few years have been poor, if they are Spurs then he is a brilliant manager. I think he is a little prudent in the transfer market and quite risk averse and although it's going back a long time he has never replaced Patrick Viera, his team lack a strong powerhouse in central midfield, lots of flair and not enough power. City have Toure and Silva types whilst arsenal have too many Silvas.
As Gary Neville said a few weeks back he's either arrogant or naive as he keeps making the same mistakes! Everyone can see he needs a top CB, CM & striker but he doesn't go out and spend! He's either arrogant and thinks he can do it on his terms or naive and thinks he doesn't need this positions filling
I too am on at 16's - but how is he 8/1 is some places now! And if he wins today i wonder how much he will shorten up Am on a Min and Thomas Hobson double today at punchy!
Hopefully today starts like yesterday and the odds on fav gets beat. I'm on ANOTHER MATTIE. Lucy could get at least a double today and possibly a treble.
