I dunno... milner is reputedly on 165k so if true then sturridges 150k (signed just before all injuries started coincidental?) is second. chump change these dyas of course mind
Question - we know he can score a few goals but what do you make of his performances and fit with the rest of the team? If you think his performances are good enough, then fair enough. The reason I ask is because I rather look at his impact on the team rather than the individual moments of quality. I.e team is creating less and scoring less when he starts. And the reason there is so much frustration re. Sturridge because we're still reliant on him. No one has faith in Benteke and we're back to square one.
Milner is the highest earning player at the club (farce), followed by Sturridge and Benteke. That's £450k a week in wages. Very little value in that.
I don't rally care about fit as that supposes a static situation that can never change. I think he'll do better. I think personally he started decently under rodgers then got injured and has been in and out. I also think as i said yesterday he is a confidence player and needs 3/4 games more playing as first pick to really hit form. Thats not what you need from a main line player but thats my feeling on him. I think we'll see more from him once more players play the way klopp wants and make the runs we need them to make. newcastle game wasn't down to him alone IMO In the end we need this guy and he's a good option if klopp gets a top top player in. I'm fairly sure on 60 mins klopp would have wnated to put the guy on not take him off v newcastle.
I'd play Origi too. This is a "free game". A chance to experiment. We know what Benteke can do. I'd like to see if Soton was a fluke or Origi can do it again. What better time to experiment with Origi than a free game.
Most of us knew at the time that Benteke was the wrong man for the job. He may be a good goalscorer but he's a square peg being forced into a round hole.
He's still only been at the club for a short time. Which includes 2 different managers and some time out injured. People act like the strategy of only ever playing with small fast players has never come up against any problems in general and for us in particular.
We're already through but it would be better to win the group so it's not an entirely free game. However, the draw would be enough for both teams to go through and for us to win the group. All depends on how much Sion want to win the group
I think the fact that a draw would be enough for both to get through will see us play a second string tbh. If Sion go for the win it would suit our style anyway.
Kazan have the better head to head with Sion So if Sion accept a draw they are through If they provoke us into beating them they are out if Kazan win
If they're playing not to lose instead of to win then that's more reason to play Origi instead of Benteke. Benteke is better on the counter when we can whip balls to him. Origi more likely to make something in a tight spot.
I don't know what they're planning to do. It's a classic #prisonersdilemma Do they trust their ability to not lose? Do they want to win the group?
We don't need to win but we ****ing should. We've been absolutely useless in Europe in recent years so we need to just starting winning games even if they supposedly 'mean nothing' And finishing top of the group/winning the game will bring back some confidence after the shambles in the North East. Feeling hopeful of a good result/performance! 2-0 Liverpool.
