While it probably is one, making a big thing of it pre-game doesn't,t help to me. Might be getting them fired up behind closed doors but should be keeping quiet and not heaping pressure on the players
It's a mistake easily made by SA. Jamie Carragher did the same. Oh it's only Watford, didn't look at the table, just thought they must be at the bottom. Muppets -both of them. For what it's worth, it was obvious from our first game , at Goodison, where WFC were unlucky to draw, that if we continued like that we would be midtable. Since then we've got better.
I think you guys will be okay this season, but like Comm says above, don't get carried away. Bournemouth got found out early, both by their lack of depth and by other teams. Every season we get fans coming on here from promoted teams getting all cocky and giving it large (not that you have just yet), when they think we're struggling and they're riding high. But this is a bloody hard unforgiving league, and we've seen it all before. I hope you guys do stay up, got a lot of time for Watford (loved going to your ground years ago, and my lad played a rugby game at your place before a Sarries match, and I've got Watford mates). But there's a long way to go yet mate. Good luck, (not at our expense though)!
I agree absolutely that there is a long long way to go, and believe me, the supporters at WFC are genuinely surprised by our position, but it is not a fluke so far as I can see from the way we have been playing. Even without goals we are fun to watch. I hope my comments aren't seen as as cocky or arrogant. It just tends to irritate us how many teams take us for granted or treat us as upstarts. Interestingly the managers of Swansea (flying high when they played us), Stoke (flying high when they played us),, West Ham (flying high ... you get the picture), all said, after we had beaten their side, that it was the worst they had played all season, it 'wasn't like them' and they 'couldn't understand it'. Didn't occur to them that maybe WFC's performance had something to do with it. Even Alex Neil (Naarwich) said he couldn't see much difference between the sides when it could have been 5/6 -0 last Sat and he seems astute enough. WFC do have a funny effect on other teams it seems. Actually I don't think SA thinks like that and I thought his comment strange. If he says that too about games against Palarse, Liddypool, WHU , Stoke , Southampton WBA and Chelski then at least that would be consistent. Do you think he will ? We'll probably be satisfied with a draw on Sat (but would love a win) as after that we've got Liddypool, Chelski, Spurs & Man City. Perhaps I'll revisit these comments on 3rd Jan! Quite separately FA Cup Final 1973 was one of the best football days I have ever had!
No, the away supporters are in Vicarage Road end, direct from the road. the corner is being rebuilt, so entrances are just along from the corner.
There are allotments behind the 'Rookery stand' at the far end. It's quite some time since away supporters were down that end. I think when the old train service had a stop just for the ground - the route would have been past allotments. (In those days the allotments were a better surface than the pitch.)
It is definitely a 6 pointer. If we don't win on Saturday we will be 5 points from safety come the villa game on the 2nd of January. Win on Saturday gives us a cushion as anything from the 3 games after that will come as a suprise.
it's amazing how many people don't know what a 6 pointer is. Completely different thing to a must win.
