A chance to see a proper Charlton team, and one with a very good chance of comfortably beating Millwall. I hope they print team sheets, they haven't been doing that this season for U-18 games. This is also a chance to walk down Floyd Road with a spring in your step for a change,
I'd love to see Lookman play alongside Anderson up front. Anderson is a very classy little striker, and between them they'd tear a few defences apart. I also hope Konsa plays. He's been in the U-21's, but he and Yeo were a great partnership last season. On the other hand there has been another young CB who's been doing well but I don't know his name due to the club's cunning plan to fool scouts by not printing team sheets. There will be a few scouts there tonight.
Beat them 4-2 on penalties. I don't know where these kids get their energy from. George Lapslie especially. I don't know if he'll make it to the first team, but he covered every blade of grass tonight. They seemed out on their feet, but still finished the match in the ascendancy. Well done to them all, and Steve Avory, the unsung hero of Charlton. The club printed teamsheets tonight, but put the names in alphabetical order without numbers, so you still didn't know who was who.
Last night was perhaps the worst I have seen the boys perform all season, I wonder if the size of the stadium and importance of the game got to them a bit? Or is it just that no Charlton team will perform well on the Valley pitch at present? Pleased that Maloney got the winning penalty as it was his defensive error that lead to the Millwall equaliser.
I thought this would be useful to put up. Well done to the U18s, I agree with All Hell they didn't play as well as I have seen them but we still beat the Millwall scum. Charlton U18s starting XI | Beeney; Sarpong-Wiredu, Zemura, Bone, Assiana, Yao, Lapslie, Konsa, Anderson, Bah, Millar. #cafc December 2 Subs | Prall, Bowry, Bangura-Williams, Morgan, Maloney. #cafc Sarpong- Wiredu and Zemura were the full backs, Assiana and Yao the centre half's, Bone Lapslie and Konsa midfield, Bah, Anderson and Millar upfront.
Cheers, Dckp. Credit to Millwall who stifled them pretty well, but only attacked after we scored. Beeney seems to be coming along nicely in goal, looked more solid than when I saw him last. I see we have another very promising LB in Zemura? I was also impressed by Bah's composure near goal, he's quite young, I believe? Funny how most U-18 teams seem bigger than us.
The English way, height and strength trumps technical ability. Hence why we fail at major tournaments when we play the big boys, can't match them at their own game when they are infinitely better at it. Doesn't help that we have the tactical geniuses of Southgate and Boothroyd in charge of the youth teams.
