Statistically he's our 2nd best performer behind Coutinho

He's only behind Mignolet, Skrtel, Clyne in PL minutes played

And he's our best performer at home (Sturridge has a better average but far less games)

Not sure what stats you're using but Milner has been one of our worst performers this season.

    Great runner mind you.

    Klopp on Sturridge

'What you need in this time is training and with Danny you have to learn to adapt to new intensity of training and you have to learn what is serious pain and what is only pain.'

Well, there's a line being drawn there, isn't there? Really hope Danny can rise to it, but I fear not.

Apparently Sturridge has been given the all clear and the "foot injury" was nothing. Does make you wonder about his attitude. He has a fantastic talent, but seems like he only wants to play when he feels like it. There is a danger he will become our next Harry Kewell

Klopp on Hendo's 'big step', Sturridge and Rossiter

    Chris Shaw @shawct
Jordan Henderson will continue to be assessed in his recovery from injury but Jürgen Klopp today spoke of a 'big step' taken by the Liverpool captain as he targets a return to the side.
The midfielder has not featured for the Reds since mid-August and has therefore not been available to the manager so far following his appointment last month.
But Henderson has stepped up his rehabilitation at Melwood during the past week and adapted quickly to the intensity of training sessions back with his teammates.
Klopp insisted he will not rush into reintroducing the skipper, however, explaining that a player of his style has to be in perfect condition to ensure a seamless comeback.
The boss said at his pre-match press conference: “He wants [to play] and we have to wait.
“We have to wait every day how we adapt the intensity of the last day, the next morning, feel good and that’s all we can say. If he’s ready and we see, he can join in our game. He is a very important player for us.
“I’m waiting for him. For a player like him and after his little history with injury, he’s always at the door! ‘Give me 10 minutes, five minutes, whatever.’
“I like this but it’s not always the best thing to do. But he’s a big step ahead now.
“In his case, we always have to wait how we can adapt the intensity; that’s not my intensity or what we are doing in training, it’s his intensity – everything we do, he does 120 per cent.
“You need to be prepared for this. A player like Hendo needs perfect physical [condition], he has to be really fit, not only 50 per cent. If he is in this shape, we can use him and he can help us.”
Klopp also offered further detail on Daniel Sturridge after the striker was not part of the Liverpool squad for Thursday’s 2-1 Europa League victory against Bordeaux at Anfield.
He said: “I understand why everybody is waiting but we have to accept the situation and the situation is that Daniel was very often injured in the last few months and maybe years.
“It’s normal when you get back in training. Usually, if you are not the quality of Daniel, nobody would think to bring him back onto the pitch after this short time.
“What you need in times like this is training and your body has to learn to adapt to a new intensity of training. Everybody wants him back on the pitch, but we all have to learn.
“That was the situation yesterday. The training for him was intensive, how it should be. We had some new things to talk about, so we have to make some assessment.
“That’s what we did and now we can say it’s not that serious but it’s not possible to go on as before. We always have to react to a situation that is completely normal after a long injury.
“Think about the whole of last year. He has played only three games [this season], against Aston Villa that I saw with two goals, and another two.
“Last season with the surgery on the hip, it is a really long period. Now we have to stay patient, I’m sorry to say – sorry for you, sorry for me and sorry for him. That’s how the situation is.”
The manager added: “It’s what I said a few weeks ago – if Daniel comes back, we have to train him.
“Usually, after this long break, if the world was perfect, you should train for five weeks in a row, without playing, only friendly games – 10 minutes, 20 minutes then 45.
“Like a pre-season, that would be best. But we all know the world is not perfect, even in Liverpool. We always have to try the best and the quickest.”
Jordan Rossiter, meanwhile, is progressing well and could feature when the U21s travel to Manchester United on Monday evening.
“Jordan Rossiter is not that far away but he is a young lad,” said Klopp.
“I have seen him three times in training; he looks good and everything is OK but usually we should give him time, minute by minute to play more and more and more. There is an opportunity on Monday night with the U21s.”
Mama: It's good news, I'll be back ASAP

    Chris Shaw @shawct
Mamadou Sakho is determined to return as quickly as possible for Liverpool after receiving the welcome news that his injury is not as serious as initially feared.
The France international was forced off shortly before half-time in the Anfield clash with Crystal Palace earlier this month due to an awkward fall following an aerial challenge.
His misfortune interrupted an impressive run of form for the defender, whose displays during October earned the Standard Chartered Player of the Month award, as voted for by supporters.
But upon collecting the accolade at Melwood, Sakho delivered a positive update on his fitness – reporting that fans could see the No.17 back on the pitch sooner than anticipated.
He told Liverpoolfc.com: “I’m very happy because I think it’s good news. Everyone thought I had a big injury for a long time.
“But, thank God, I think it will be between four and six weeks. We will see the evolution. Now I feel much better, I work and I hope I will come back as soon as possible.
“For me, it’s not difficult. I take my injury like that because I can change nothing. I know which way I have to go, which road I have to take.
“I have the objective to come back as soon as possible, as strong as possible. When I come back I will try to give my best like before.”
Sakho was watching his teammates on television last weekend as Liverpool produced a sensational performance to beat Manchester City 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium.
Frustration at not being involved in such a memorable display was mixed with huge pride in the standards achieved by Jürgen Klopp’s side.
He said: “I watched the game. I was in Clairefontaine in France and I watched the game on TV. I felt really proud about the team – it was a really good job.
“We played really strong and showed the team. Everyone felt the same. The most important thing is the team – everyone has to give 100 per cent.”

Boss: Coutinho should be ready for Southampton

Jürgen Klopp expects Philippe Coutinho to be available for Liverpool's Capital One Cup quarter-final at Southampton on Wednesday night.
The Brazilian missed the midweek win over Bordeaux in the Europa League and today’s 1-0 Barclays Premier League victory against Swansea City.
But at his post-match press conference, the manager revealed Coutinho is in training and should be fit to face the Saints on the south coast.
“I think so, yes,” said Klopp at Anfield.
“Philippe had a very intensive session yesterday but we decided two or three days ago that we didn’t want to risk [him] for this game.
“Now I think he’s fit. I saw him in the dressing room and he looks good. I’ll have to talk with him tomorrow – I think he’s ready for Southampton.”

#noexcuses for Klopp, last time Flanno was fit we competed for the league, so I expect a title challenge if he can get fit and stay fit

Fitness latest: Boss on Daniel, Jordan and Phil

Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge are set to travel to Southampton for Wednesday's Capital One Cup quarter-final, but a late check will be required on Philippe Coutinho's fitness.
The Reds visit St Mary’s having won six of their last seven games in all competitions, most recently the 1-0 victory over Swansea City at Anfield at the weekend.
Henderson and Sturridge both returned to action as substitutes in the second half of that match and came through in good condition, meaning they can join the squad again tomorrow.
Jürgen Klopp said at his pre-match press conference: “They have had no physical reaction. It’s good news and they did their job.
“That was good and important for us. They helped us keep the result, which was not easy – especially for Jordan in his position.
“Daniel did what we spoke about before, that he should be our target for winning balls, once we got the ball be an option, the first option. That’s what he did; everybody could see his quality in a few moments. It was good for us.
“Now the problem with the Southampton game is we cannot ignore that it could be extra-time. I’m sure 120 minutes would be too much for both.
“We don’t have to think about starting, we cannot go into a game and know we have to change these two players for sure. But if nothing happens from now until the plane has started, they’ll join us and be in the squad and we again have these two options.”
On Coutinho, the boss added: “I cannot make decisions in this moment because we have another training [session] today.
“At the end, we have to talk about everything again with the medical department and talk to Phil. It will be close, possible, but we have to check and double check the situation and then we’ll make a decision. We have to wait.”
With a place in the final four of the Capital One Cup at stake on the south coast, Klopp intends to field the strongest side available to him against Southampton.
He said: “The strongest team depends on your situation – how much they played in the last few days. We can’t ignore the last two games and we can’t ignore the next game, that’s the situation.
“Usually you need a completely full squad in the best space; for this, in an ideal world, you need six angry players who are not in the squad. That’s not our situation and we have to think about it.
“It’s a puzzle but at the end it will be the strongest team, for sure.”

    Klopp on Coutinho fitness latest

Jürgen Klopp insists Liverpool will take no risks with the fitness of Philippe Coutinho as they wait to determine whether he’ll be fit to face Newcastle United on Sunday.
The Brazil playmaker has missed the Reds’ last three outings against Bordeaux, Swansea City and Southampton due to a hamstring problem picked up during the 4-1 win at Manchester City on November 21.
Klopp had initially confirmed he thought Coutinho would be in contention for the trip to St Mary’s on Wednesday, but he remained on Merseyside as his teammates cantered to an emphatic 6-1 win.
Liverpool will now assess the 23-year-old’s condition before deciding if he will make the trip to St James’ Park.
Klopp told his pre-match press conference: “I like optimism, but with Phil we were too optimistic. Sometimes it happens like this and there’s nothing to criticise about it.
“He tried everything he could, he trained near normally but he doesn’t feel comfortable, so we have to take care of this.
“The muscle is a dangerous thing and always when you feel something or don’t feel comfortable then stop. He has been training, we will wait and I can wait every day – it’s no problem until somebody tells me he is available and then next time he’ll play. Yesterday nobody gave me this sign, so we will have to wait [and see] today.”
