Don't think anyone is satisfied, however at least there was an improvement. Let's be honest, we all expected a hammering today whereas a point would have been a fair result.
We lost. Probably deserved a point. We still lost. As was pointed out, no shot on target. Yes an improved performance, some credit for that... but this squad is better than that, surely? Oh well, on to the next game, I must be more positive... and not contradict Valley's optimism
Better than last week but not hard to do ! not a shot on target ! they seemed to have a go though, more out of being pissed off with being a bunch of losers than anything else ? liverpool were not that good either ! 45% happy with that as expected to get a thrashing before kick off.
It just doesn't make sense to me. Siggy and Shelvey normally have a few pops in the game but they never seem to get the opportunity to shoot any more. We are playing a very rigid style of football where either the striker creates their own chance and scores, or they don't score at all. There is no supply from anywhere on the pitch and we never have any numbers forward when we do attack. Our build up is slow and predictable. We are leaving our trickiest winger on the bench and sacrificing a wide position to accommodate a player that should be playing up front. It just all seems wrong at the moment. We have scored 14 goals in 14 games. So unless we plan on keeping a clean sheet every game, we are never likely to win. Something has to give.
Because we keep playing Ayew out wide. We were very good on the right today because of Routs staying out wide and linking up with Naughton and Gylfi etc. Ayew, when he cuts inside stifles Gylfis movement, space etc. It would seem, that only Monk can't see this.
I couldn't get to see the game today but by all accounts an improvement and it could be said we were unlucky to lose it. A stay of execution for Monk or a turning point? We'll see. No shots on target again though. That's poor.
If Huw Jenkins waits until the January transfer window, then it will be too late, we will be without doubt in the bottom 3, clueless to do anything about it, Monk has got to go, and go now..........
The team played for Monk today. He hasn't lost the squad, clearly. They did work hard. I can't fault that. However, they worked hard and still got no shots on target. They worked hard and lost. If the players are working hard, then it must be one thing and one thing only causing this slump - Monk. Whether it's his tactics, his coaching methods, his idealogy of how football should be played - whatever it is it's stopping our hardworking players from having the opportunity to score goals or even shoot on target. Monk needs a good hard look in the mirror and start realising that if his players are working hard for him, then it must be his tactics and coaching that are incorrect and losing us football matches. He has to change things. Change the formation. Change the system. Change the personnel in the starting lineup. Change what we do on the training ground. Whatever. Because if a squad of hardworking talented football players who finished 8th last year still can't even have a shot on target in 90 minutes (and today isn't the first time), then the manager is doing something severely wrong.
Think I can fathom that out with or without an explanation.... Yeah we're not creating & that is a major problem at the moment, Norwich away was the same. In the context of today's match though, for all our frustrations of our plight at the moment, we still managed to limit a team who cost far in excess of what ours cost, to a couple of chances on target, the dodgy pen & a Lukasz save at his near post...
I think possibly , on review , Taylor was in the box and it was a hand ball , but his guilty arm wasn't in the box.In my opinion , it was a free kick and even if it was that close and no official has a good view , you must not give a penalty, I'll have to see it again . Also , when most were asking for a penalty when Montero was brought down , I think it was Henderson just previous who may have had a "Hand of God " moment and when attempting to head the ball had it possibly go off his arm , and he was in the box. Liverpool deserved no more than what we deserved in this game . May take a few games for Eder to get his shot up to par , but was impressed with his play. I would keep starting Britton and Routs too here and there. At the very least , we have the whole squad playing , and that's a big plus. Hats off to Monk for giving this starting team another go , made a fool out of me for belittling him previous to the game starting , a very courageous decision that seem to work after a rough start . Feeling a lot better going forward knowing the entire team will be hungry for starts
I can see where you're coming from WSaF, but if we'd taken a draw from this game, what good would it have done us? We'd still be toothless and searching for answers that Monk doesn't currently have. We'd still be no closer to being able to create chances. We struggled to make chances against Norwich as you said, we also struggled against Villa for 70mins, struggled all game against Stoke, against Watford, against Southampton... In my opinion, being able to limit the opposition from a defensive standpoint isn't the answer that's going to keep us up, and focusing on keeping the opposition out rather than getting ourselves in will actually just draw us further and further away from the slick, sexy Swansea that we all grew to love, and now have grown to miss. Our domination of the ball and ability to use it viciously to pen back teams in their own half - that's not only what used to win us games, but what used to win us clean sheets.
Notwithstanding our present situation, there are three things that bother me. 1. On viewing a 20 minute video of AYEW when we first signed him I thought that we had bought a central striker. His goals showed his ability to head and his quickness of feet in the box was obvious. Why then are we not giving AYEW the chance as our lead striker? 2. I have had concerns over the past weeks at our ability to form an attacking threat, so where does this leave James BEATTY? This person is on an excellent salary and quite frankly not earning his money and seems to be on a jolly?. It is known of his friendship with MONK , is this a job for the boys? 3 To sack MONK it is reckoned that it would cost the club in the region of 3 million pounds? If we go down we will lose many times that amount. In business terms the board have to make that decision. Please could we have normal service restored and give us the fast, accurate and attractive football that every JACK was proud of.
Good post by the way... big.. Don't think for one minute that I'm happy just to limit a team of Liverpool's stature to 2 chances, because if you were in my kitchen during the 2nd half, my raised voice with endless expletives, would have been evidence enough... Look, I'm gutted we lost again, especially when we didn't deserve to. Still I myself can't get away from the fact that no attempts on target for the 2nd away match on the trot, is effin shocking!!! But on the other hand, I didn't agree with all the pre-match negativity to the match & our team. Don't buy this 'long-ball' team ****e too, I actually think we've played more possession football this season under Monk, than at any time since Laudrup was sacked!! The stats from the match reports & what I've seen watching all but 2 matches this season, seem to be the way I feel over it. But 'toothless' we certainly are!!!! What frustrates me though, is how quickly the venom is getting directed at Monk. He couldn't do no wrong last season, let's give the guy a chance. This is not a recent thing to me, we had periods under Brendan & Laudrup when we were slow, ponderous, passing teams to death, but were equally clueless & toothless, Newcastle at home 0-2, West Ham away, Laudrup's fate match, when we were utterly clueless in front of goal, are a couple of examples. l don't know the answer, but I think we need to try different systems, I think we've done 4-2-3-1 to death now & it's obviously not allowing us to move the ball quick enough anymore. I'm certainly not a 4-4-2 man, but we need to get our boys' into the mixer quicker & need a style that allows us to have more pops on goal, because we are certainly lacking there... Answers on a 'post-card' please...
Hi guys Nothing to do with me but I don't see the need to panic and sack Monk, you weren't awful today You'll probably only get 1 point max from the next two games too, but those are hard games Better invest the money in the squad not the new manager You aren't going down
Tbh since the Utd game, Montero has gone from looking like a £30 million pound player to a £3 pound player.
Could that be because he's playing in far more limited space because there's nothing happening on the other side of the pitch? Crystal Palace used Bolassie through the centre yesterday, can you imagine us doing that with Jeff? He'd cause mayhem. We don't even swop wingers anymore - Routs and Dyer used to swap sides during a game. Our wide play this season has been abysmal. Having said that, I was reasonably satisfied with our overall performance today. We played some good football at times and kept going until the 95th minute.
Yes, because Ayew also has a tendency to drift over to the left at times. That is why I was pissed off he took Routs off. With the amount of space he was creating on the right it would have been nice to see Monts also stretching Liverpool on the left and freeing up the space for Gylfi to work through the middle.
