There has been talk recently about the possibility of us dropping out of the Premier League reserves league after the upcoming season. I doubt the FA or the Football League would allow it, but would anybody else like to see a Barcelona/Real Madrid-style 'B Team'? This would allow the younger players to gain experience in a competitive environment once they have outgrown the Under-18 team. There would obviously be restrictions on promotions like in Spain but what are your thoughts? <ok>

Incidentally, this is clearly hypothetical and I am not saying it should or shouldn't happen, I am just interested in what others thoughts would be. :)

No way, with the Premier League as rich as it is it would push so many clubs further and further down the league structure and out of business. We've 100 plus years of history in some clubs in the Championship, I'd much rather them than an artificial Man City B team winning the league every year.

Yeah, I suppose that is a good point <ok>

All the rich clubs would be winning lower league titles constantly.

Not a great lover of change, if it isn't broken don't fix it.

If we do get rid of the reserve league then I'd like to see us find a feeder club to send players on loan to when they outgrow the academy, maybe even Gateshead. Obviously the better players would be sent to L1/Championship but it would be very nearby, and competitive, frequent games.

Don't we pretty much do that anyway? Tavernier was there last season, possibly someone else too?

Not officially, we only sent 2 players there. We could send much more regularly there and help them get promoted.

It would maybe work up till the conference, but without going through loopholes I don't think it would be possible to get into even league 2. I was under the impression you're only allowed to be the owner of ONE football league club at any one time.

    All valid points <ok>

I agree that offering to use Gateshead as a feeder club would probably be the best way to replace the reserve team.
