Vaniteux looks set to make his chase debut over at Kempton. He goes over 2m and I like him as an ante post angle on the Arkle at 20/1.

He was a big baby still when running 3rd in a Supreme in 2014 and he lacked a turn of foot at the elite level over hurdles.

He is a classy sort and the experience over hurdles will not have been wasted on him. I think he could make a really nice chaser, let's see how he develops over the season.

Nothing for me until Wednesday as I tend stick to all weather and major jumps meets this time of year and unfortunately Chelmsford has become an avoid at all costs track. The problem is some horses are dealing with the track and some not but unlike the other track that falls into this category which is Southwell, the specialists have not established themselves just yet.

The Richard Hughes horse Duchess of Marmite runs in the 4.35 - this horse was a definite bet next time out as she had won well backed at Kempton over 2m and then ran a blinder to be 2nd over 1m 5f on Friday at Wolverhampton. Everything with regard the form book says back out from the same mark over 2m again this horse needs backing at 3-1. However she has a 50-50 chance of taking to the track and so an opportunity must be passed over.

It is a shame as the layout is better and fairer than Wolver and Lingfield but the surface much worse.

Very nice card at Kempton for a Monday. The qualifier for this new Challenger series has attracted a very nice field and it should be a decent race and Lucy Wadham's Road To Freedom should go well off bottom weight. Was beaten only a head by Milgen Bay last time out (the rest nowhere) and Milgen Bay followed up at the weekend in good style off a 6lb higher mark.

    2.45 The Clock Leary

Mistake at the first last time out but still showed some interest in the race and I think today is recompense for that run.

Also like Air Horse One in the first, but the Hendo horse looks well touted too.

Lucky bugger. Only been to Centre Parcs once but thought it was fantastic. Expensive but fantastic. I'd go again just for the pool.

I’m loathe to back novice hurdlers or chasers, at this stage in the term, re the Cheltenham Festival as these days there are so many novice heats (and indeed handicaps) that you can be pretty clueless where the beast will actually end up providing he’s either good enough or A1 enough come March. And in a huge number of cases even connections themselves don’t know until deciding the weekend prior to the meet. In the case of Vaniteux the Arkle does, at this stage, look by far the most likely race though as in the 2 times, in decent company, he was stepped up to 2 and a half miles he looked a blatant non-stayer. His New Years Day defeat by Rock on Rubes the most glaring example. He came to win his race at the last and then all but stopped as he failed to get up the hill.

I say steady on Stick, my old love. You take care re this one. Theo’s Charm runs in the infamous, and I do mean infamous, novice hurdle which in ’13 and ’14 saw West Wizard turned over at 1/6 and 2/9!

One of these defeats, of course, led to the famous Mr Henderson quote when he remarked after the heat, “I’m not surprised. He was only 5% fit!”

I hope Hendersons entry is only 5% fit today, betting suggests otherwise.

105 Kempton, e/w bet on lettheriverrundry - BP 9/1. Should have won last time in my opinion, also a rev f/c with the heavily backed fav I think!

I like the chances of Stephanie Frances today, looked to be travelling and jumping well before slipping up - the incident looked very strange as if i remember correctly it was on a straight? Compensation awaits today i hope.
