After a bad last week Gills go back top with a good win against fellow promotion chasers Bury. A brilliant solo goal from Osadebe to seal it. Some important changes today with both Loft and Mcdonald dropped to the bench. With Osadabe and Hessy aswell as Garmston at left back instead of Donaldson. Also the new striker Samuel making his debut. Was worried when we went behind early but after we got the goal back we were the better team. Second half the defense were superb blocking and clearing off the line when needed. To cap it off Osedebe run half the pitch to score a brilliant individual goal. A much better performance and fully deserved 3 points. Lets hope our form will continue in this vain and stay there or there abouts. Oops Dickenson not Donaldson didn t want Always to be right
Channel 5 a disgrace. Coverage of the game awful.Have they got something against us, did they not know we would be top today with a win. Did anyone see pope's handball for hessy shot. Surely would have been sent off if we had not scored.
Well done JE and the boys, back to the commitment and desire shown in August, a thoroughly deserved win. I won't mention the midfield changes that were made, I won't make any comment aimed at Always, I will enjoy the warm glow of a good win and performance against a top six team.
Grumpy No shame in naming the midfield changes. I stated several under-performing players in my 'Nailed On' thread. People like Houghton, Loft, Morris, Dickenson, McGlashan, McDonald and Ehmer were excluded from the starting 11. -- and rightly so ! Hessenthaler and Osadebe had much better games. Wright was better for our midfield (despite one almost suicidal pass - from which Bury should have scored). Lennon is becoming more invaluable. Samuel did very well for his first game. JE is to be congratulated in making the changes - to drop players who are out of form - and got some underachievers playing with greater intensity. This is very much the most important job in management - perhaps easier said than done - the performance was definitely with much more than 57% effort - let's hope it continues.
Losing Lennon yesterday was always going to have a big impact. Got to move on and get over it.....or get half a dozen premiership loan players in....and get their parent clubs to pay their wages...
Will have to stay awake for the full 98 minutes on Tuesday as Henderson got two late goals for Rochdale today....one in the 95th minute. :-(
windy, those loan players were available to anyone, we just took a gamble on young, untried lads and it has worked for us. We couldn't afford to buy our own players so have to use the loan system.
robbie I'm not sure if you're suggesting that windyrog is being a little jealous. I don't know if your loan player wages are being paid by their parent club - if so - good for you ! - but it is definitely a problem for clubs like Gillingham - the wages of even Division 3 players can be difficult to find - let alone the wages of players from higher leagues. And of course - we're not exactly a 'fashionable' club - you might experience that next season as you try to attract better players - fighting against the clubs, in the Championship, who will be benefiting from parachute payment money. ps have you read my thoughts in the 'Je suis Gills ' thread ? - nothing jealous in there !
