Just switched channel briefly and saw that idiotic, hapless fake stood there flapping about and wondered how long he'd last after this? Not long I would reckon.

With any luck him being there will drive Bale into our arms.

Your spelling is very poor, Swarbs! It should be "them" and not dem. And "that" instead of "dat".

I'm sure you will not make the same mistake going forward. :D

I would argue that because 'going' is defined in such a general way (the original definition 'something done', it is entirely acceptable to have 'pushing on' as a possible usage in the original example. IE I could have said 'I'm pushing on the belief'. It sounds weird because it is so rarely said/used, but who am I to argue with a respectable thesaurus source? (I admit, I might want to check additional sources before I actually utilized this phrase)!

The summit link that you provided did indeed give a possible usage for the phrase 'go on', indicating that it is often followed by a noun. But it didn't say anywhere that it was compulsory that it had to be followed by a noun. So I don't see how my argument is contradicted by this link.

Your next link does indeed confirm that 'act on' could have been used in this case. This however does not help to prove that 'going on' could not have been used in the original example.

I also take issue with your explanation of a strike being tangible. Having 'actual/ real substance' does not seem like it is enough to qualify for 'tangible' status, given that it needs to be 'discernible by touch'. However, another definition is indeed your assertion of being 'real or actual', but why would my 'belief' not also qualify? (Please let's try and not go too far into philosophical matters on this point)!

I wouldn't pay 80m for Bale. No more than 40 for me.

Just a gentle dig mate <ok>

I get frustrated with the teams tactics too sometimes but this is OUR team. We all have our opinions and it is a free country. You are entitled to give LVG stick just as I am free to have a dig at the critics. My view is that it is not ALL down to lvg. The players are responsible too.

But after this win I am going to enjoy the 2nd place !! And our past performance against WBA and the RS were not that bad were they (in retrospect ) ?

You would have thought so. On the basis of common sense but it is not uncommon that the team does not necessarily follow this logic.

I am old enough to have experienced United spending the most on players for years and yet end most of their seasons outside the top 6.
