Got a lot of time for him, does an enormous amount for charity and national sporting events (Olympics anyone)' lives in a goldfish bowl with dignity. And far from thick, just didn't get an education. Plus of course he's gorgeous.
Good footballer but not much more to him. Always portrayed as a perfect husband and father despite (allegedly) have at least one affair.
He's been told by his wife to do it, who's desperate to become Lady Posh. Posh's family organise Becks in the same way that Wills is organised by the Middletons. Two astutely commerical and highly socially ambitious families behind both blokes
I thought I was cynical. I'm afraid I don't spend much time thinking about the manipulation of their public personas. Both Beckham and Prince William do a good job under hideous levels of scrutiny. Who cares if they are being manipulated. Where do you get your info Goldie, Hello magazine?
I never get all the nasty criticism of Beckham. Jealousy perhaps? He wasn't a good footballer, he was an outstanding one. I watched him in the recent charity match at Old Trafford the other day and he still looked class. As Stan says he's far from thick and does so much good work when he could just sit by a pool counting his money.
From someone looking from the outside in ............... I do admire Beckham for the way he holds himself. Always respectful and humble. Well done man. Footnote - And he was a very good player as well. Here in Oz, we suffer from 'tall poppy' syndrome ( where any decent sports person who continues to excel and make some coin, even after retiring, are chastised from us mere mortals = JEALOUSY )
I'm not jealous of Beckham, Col, honest.... I was really having a pop at Posh because she always looks so fc uking miserable! Becks was, as you say, an outstanding footballer. He's a decent ambassador too, tattoos or not, but I do think he's being pushed out there by Posh for the sake of the Beckham Brand. May be I'm just cynical, as Stan says
Two-penneth here He is far from thick, you do not get to be that rich being thick. He knows what he is doing....He also knows what he can and cannot do. He and his advisors (good-ones, which may just be luck, but suspect it is judgment) know how to market him, and he does the job very well...just like he did as a footballer When he started in football he was a good prospect, which he ruined by a couple of silly incidents, he saw how he had alienated the country and his fan base...and slowly bought it around. He was not the greatest footballer in the world, but he was a very very good one, and had some stellar moments (e.g against Greece). He is now conducting himself very very well, a credit to himself, his family, football and hois country. Long may it last And yes he is dead sexy, especially on sides of big red buses in his Calvin Kleins
Unlike his wife, he has got some talent. In my opinion he was a good footballer but that's about it. I googled Man United's fans all time best 11 and I note he doesn't feature in any best 11 team. To me, he was not world class or anywhere near it. I think he will be remembered for his commercial exploits off the field especially his ability to sell shirts, rather than what he did on a football pitch.
I strongly disagree. He was genuinely World class imo. His first touch, passing, crossing and free-kick taking were all top notch. He also had a fantastic engine and worked tirelessly for the entire game! This is quite rare among this type of player.
And his wife a string of number one hits in a band and a very successful career in design, plus she seems to be a very good mother, there is talent
She had little talent as a singer, and couldn't make it solo unlike the others in the band - but to give her credit, she is an extremely astute businesswoman and has been a big influence in her husband's career off the pitch
