I saw these articles today and my suspicions were confirmed. When he was starting at Seattle, as a rookie, alongside Clint Dempsey, Deandre Yedlin looked like he was having a blast every game. He looks more focused at Sunderland, but the enthusiasm remains evident. http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/deandre-yedlin-relishing-unbelievable-chapter-10459731? http://thetottenhamway.com/article/tottenham-move-has-been-a-career-roadblock---yedlin?
Great that he seems to love the game and no doubt his time in the premier league will help him develop. He'll have a good career in football. I don't think that will be in the premier league though.
I think one thing has become clear. We're playing him out of position. Defensively like PVA he falls well short of the required standard. They're just not fullbacks.
As a young loan player from a big side we would expect him to be a very significant player for us. The rest of the world, Spurs and the States might hype Yedlin but the fact is his performances so far have not been half as good as either Rose or Alonso. If we had the player I saw at the world cup I'd be delighted but for me he seems to be just going through the motions. He needs to up his game significantly to offer the same level of impact that other loan signings have for us in recent years. Borini, Ki, Alonso, Rose and to a massive degree M'Vila have all had much more impact than Yedlin. Potentially great player (world cup) that is giving us complete mediocre performance. He's 22, not 18.
