    The word is we are opening up contract talks with him. This is a good move for all concerned.
    For Perez financially, for us contractually also.
    Reference the latter, a longer contract with a big buyout clause gives us protection if he goes.. And stability if he stays.
    Win/Win all round I say.

    Much needed if we are serious about keeping our best players. He's probably one of the lowest paid starting forwards in the league. If not the lowest. Good for him.

    He genuinely seems to love it here too - so hopefully we can offer a sensible contract and don't risk losing some of that goodwill with a stupidly low offer. Even from a business point of view then they must see that offering a contract that appeals to the player will be good financially as he could turn into a very valuable asset on bith the pitch and the balance sheet!

    Does he deserve a better contract? Definitely so.

    Let's not make too much out of this, he deserves it, and the club are giving him a bigger contract so that we protect ourselves from prying clubs.
