Point about bank cards was just that they're not a perfect system. Nowt else.

The civil liberty ****ers would have a pink fit with the suggestion. As good a reason as any for suggesting, I suppose...?

I'm with Terry here, I can see this happening but not for a few decades yet.

Who knows, some twat might get their mitts on a dirty bomb and cause havoc. And then governments might force this on us.

Who knows what the future holds? No one saw the rise of IS, for example. We just don't know.

Human rights only allow for equality, if everybody has them, we are all equal.

Probably won't happen anyway, it's just a sure fire way to reduce all crime, ever.

Developing tech will mean we can create products which can be tagged and tracked, the world and everything in it needs digitally policed, no questions whatsoever.

Mate we're probably less than 3 years away from making microscopic microchips, they could be planted literally anywhere in the human body including inside bone.

This isn't my fantasy idea by the way, these products are being developed as we speak with counter-terrorism at the forefront of the research.

I'm fairly sure there'll be somebody in that lab clever enough to make the same point you've just raised.

A technology like this would definitely make it easier to monitor and control potential terrorist threats - for a while. The problem with every new technology though is that just around the corner is a new way around it as counter-measures are developed. My biggest concern though is wondering how long it would be before it started being used in other ways. Big companies finding out if you have gone for a job interview elsewhere, people offering services to track your spouse to make sure they aren't cheating or worst of all providing the ultimate opportunity for identity theft.

It would also involve a lot of trust in the people controlling it - which ultimately would be governments (and therefore politicians).

I don't think it would reduce crime that much as most crime isn't pre-meditated, but like you say it would make solving crimes easier, provided it was used properly and not abused. It would probably provide new opportunities for crime too for those who learned how to manipulate the technology though.

(Guess that makes me a civil liberty ****er as well as well as a liberal **** <laugh> )

I'll have the last laugh when you can get a 12 inch iCock from the App Store.

Agreed, like I say I don't see it happening anyhow.

Don't agree about most crimes not being pre-meditated though. I can only assume you're referring to opportunist crimes but they're still technically looking for an opportunity.

Got no idea of any facts and figures so could well be wrong, but yeah I was thinking of any opportunistic crimes or those that involved some form of violence or anger. People reacting to situations they find themselves in and reacting to being angry, drunk or whatever.

    Save for later
French fighter jets launched their biggest raids in Syria to date targeting the Islamic State’s stronghold in Raqqa just two days after the group claimed coordinated attacks in Paris that killed more than 130 people, the defence ministry said.

“The raid ... including 10 fighter jets, was launched simultaneously from the United Arab Emirates and Jordan. Twenty bombs were dropped,” the statement said, adding that the mission had taken place this evening.

The operation, carried out in coordination with US forces, struck a command centre, recruitment centre for jihadists, a munitions depot and a training camp for fighters, it said.

A defence official was quoted by Associated Press as saying the strikes were ‘massive’ and had destroyed two jihadi sites in Raqqa.

    More to follow...

    It's on!

My question is why did it take for a load of innocent people to die for this action to be taken? We clearly knew they had these jihadist recruitment centres etc. but just thought "nah nothing'll come of it, let's just leave them be..."? Talk about short-sightedness.

Nothings really changed though has it? France were already conducting airstrikes in Syria. They have just done their biggest one yet in retaliation...

Anybody who believes all of the IS is in Syria and Iraq has lost the plot.

Their puppet masters, and I'm not talking about mouth pieces like Jihadi John, will be in other countries such as Iran, Pakistan, Nigeria.

Thousands more will be being trained, this war won't be contained in two countries, no way Jose.

You are quite right. There are apparently 27 organisations with terrorist links just in SE Asia that have declared an affiliation to IS of which 19 are here in Indonesia. A number of these are thought to have supplied fighters who have travelled to Iraq and Syria, although many of the Indonesians go and then come back when they don't get paid to then get picked up by the Indonesian Intelligence Services and tortured until they say where they were trained in Indonesia. One advantage of living in a country where human rights are abused regularly is that it makes it easier to obtain good intelligence on these groups.
Its a real worry for the Indonesians as they believe it stokes the Islamic fundamentalist movements here. There was an article in the newspaper today where the intelligence chief stated his concern for copy cat attacks on Indonesian targets but commented that he was not sure that the MIT (East Indonesia Mujahadin) were ready to carry out a coordinated attack yet as their last one involved a suicide bomber walking into a police station and detonating but with only one casualty (himself). I think he took the term suicide bomber a bit literally.

Theres been rhousands killed in the southern provinces of thailand. The muslims want them.

Very little hits the news. Bur its a constant battle zone. Lots od bombings and shootings.

Thats why i think places like phuket are prime targets. Especially with high season nearly here.

There lies the problem. A Maj. General, ex SF, said on the news yesterday that it is a mindset that has to change, if their belief is so strong then just bombing them only attracts more terrorists to their twisted cause. The Muslim imams in the their communities need to be seen to be publicly condemning IS at every opportunity and calling for a holy war against them, because IS are ****ing pawns of the devil, they are nazis in turbans and should be shown as exactly that.
What a ****ed up world we live in
