http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/tra...for-12million-plus-in-cash-article773372.html Mr Cortese is asking for cash up front only and good on him none of this BS after 1million appearances and 2million international caps for a fiver and a pat on the back (maybe that was a bit too far). Although I would gladly take £12mil upfront with a sell on percentage.
I very much doubt anyone would buy him for 12-15 million in straight cash. If they were prepared to though, you'd have to take it.
I think Cortese has a price in mind and wont budge you can tell he is a Banker as he very financially shrewd, but I think Mark Chamberlain and Wenger think hes something that rhymes with Banker (very mature) but I would much prefer to be looked at as stubborn and arrogant then give in to the Demands of 'Bigger Clubs' or Big time Charlies.
Would like to keep him because he can only improve, but if he wants to go and we could get 12 million it would be good business. Like to hear that other managers find Nicola difficult (to put it politely) because it shows that Saints are not pushovers. This saga is getting tiresome and I think Alex should be ashamed touting himself like that...have Arsenal even put in a serious offer and would they at this difficult time for themselves..only time will tell.
If he want's to go , let him . BUT only if we are happy with the terms . Fair play to NC . Lovely position to be in isn't it
As much as I love llorente why would we want to replace our pacey winger with a tank, but slow striker?
And as said above you just wouldn't mess with cortese he is stubborn and has the clubs best interest at heart. If all this is true and chamberlain wants out then let him go and with cortese overseeing proceedings we know that we won't get ripped off. One thing though does anyone think chamberlain could be being a bit arrogant saying that he feels he is ready for the premier league, with the greatest respect he has only played one season in league 1! Don't think a season in the championship with us would do him any harm at all. But whatever he does good luck to him!
Think AOC (if the quotes are correct) is being a bit foolish - he couldnt last 90mins in league one last season against some very poor fullbacks. Play a season in the championship against the likes of West Ham, Leicester, Reading, Forest, Leeds. If you are taking those defences to pieces, then im sure the big boys will come calling. As yet, I doubt there is anyone willing to spend £10m+ on someone who is effectively an academy player for a prem side. Interestingly the arsenal fans seem unimpressed and critical of Wenger for targetting another expensive unproven kid...
Getting bored of this Oxo saga now, if he's going to leave he's going to leave. We've got plenty of quality in the squad to cope without him. We can get a more seasoned and experienced winger for a fraction of his supposed transfer fee anyway.
The fact that Nicola wants money up front rather than add-ons suggests he isn't willing to wager on Alex playing football in Arsenal's first team or England any time soon.
I love the way that on here if a transfer story gets rumoured about 1 of our players in the paper everyone says well its all rubbish the papers just make up stuff, but as soon as there is a story that the fans like then every one jumps on it saying they love cortese. Funny breed football fans.
I think it's more the case that if something looks inevitable then we like to see the positive spin. Also Nicola hasn't let us down so far, so people trust him to make the right decision. This is because feeling around Saints is positive, but fans are fickle so who knows what future holds.
If I was Cortese, I would not sell AOC this season. I would sit him down and tell him he owes Saints a year in the Championship and if he performs well he can go next summer. If oxo's confidence is right, he should shine in the Champ and we should let him go where he wants next summer. But that's me.
well after the walcott and bale shambles with installments etc why wouldnt NC take note - as nige would say, if they wanted him bad enough they would stump up the cash - its as simple as that. we all know a bid of £12m cash would be enough probably and then we would invest that in some top quality. i think what we all need to take out of the situation here is that no matter what happens we are in a win win situation.
Sensible suggestion Red Stripe. Not sure when his contract is up, but sit him down, make him sign a new one that gives him more money now and has a release clause in it for next summer of £12m, or whatever the figure Cortese has in mind and say to him, "there you go Sonny, if they want you, they can have you next summer for this figure"; but please give us this one season in the Cahmpionship and you'll benefit from it oo.
Irrelevant thought..if it's cash only (no cheques please!) how big a box would be needed for 12 million in £50s.
It would be a BIG box, but at least there would be no tax deductions on this under the table transaction.
