    Wow.

My 10,000th post and its about another atrocity.

I CBA getting into a debate about the politics of it all, or the religion, this is just an absolutely appalling attack and my heart goes out to all those affected.

I can't get my head around the fact that over 120 have died, and we have a small core on here scoring points against each other with stupid name calling and correcting grammar. You know who you are. You bring shame on us, you bring shame on yourselves.

    RIP too many.

I argued against them and attempted to get them to stop, I don't have moderation tools to deal with them in accordance with board rules. They didn't bring shame on me, although they did disgust me, the ones I have named - perhaps you should name names too.

I had to stop watching the live fallout from this at about 1am, words just can't describe how sickening this cowardly attack is.
I'm scared, not for for me, but for my children and the evil world they will be growing up in. It was bad enough looking over my shoulder in Ireland, but this is on another level.
There is no quick fix. People saying they hate Muslims, well I've worked with some and they are friendly loving people, believe me they will be feeling very ashamed and extremely sad for what happened last night.
We can't ignore the continuing atrocities that are causing people to flee their own countries, we must still help them. A period of calm is needed now, knee jerk reactions often cause more harm than good.

    It's quite simple - revenge.

You see, the killing of 140 innocent people in a Western Capital is deemed barbaric. Yet many thousands of innocent Afghans & Iraqis perished at the hands of Allied troops. Are those lives less worthy because they live in a country far away with different religion & culture? That's what ultimately drives them to do this.

A death in the west is unacceptable to us yet a death in the east is. That's what drives them to do this.

I hate war, it's the worst of all evil because it's the innocents that are sacrificed.

RIP to all innocent people killed in war and I include armed services in that too. It's the 0.1% of psychopaths that crave power and lead us to conflict that are responsible.

As the Kinks sang "It's a mixed up, muddled, up ****ed up world"

I wouldn't dispute any of that.

The problem is that their actions are most likely to result in more of the actions they're protesting about, in fact, I reckon they've given a green light to security forces to take the gloves off, and a hardening of resolve that means concessions are unlikely.

If peace is a significant aim, they'd be better funding journalists to produce a documentary and open up debates.

Sad times. I've only seen a few clips on tv. I just can't imagine what it must feel like for those touched more directly.

Have you seen first hand what these terrorists are doing in their own lands, in the small villages?? If not then you would realise that a death in the east not acceptable to us, hence why we get involved to help these poor people.
I'm not going to go into detail, it's visions and demons I'm trying to deal with on my own.
But are right about the world been ****ed up.

That is why I think increased surveillance is the best answer. It will soon become obvious to the security services who the dangerous minority are.

They don't even need to see first hand, as a search engine informs on events in the far east and also in Europe. It can't deliver the reality of the gore, the colours, the smell, the hapless and helpless tragedy of it all though. A death, such as these, should not be acceptable to anyone, anywhere, and we should get involved to stop it; but what being involved constitutes is another matter.

They want everybody to have the same views as them, behave in the same way. They want to kill everybody who wont comply.

Just sad, sad news. Nothing more can be said and thoughts and prayers are with the people of Paris and France.

Along with the majority of posters I offer my condolences to the people of France and especially to the families of those that have perished, but I think with this latest atrocity the calls for more stringent internet and general communication surveillance cannot now be rejected no matter how repugnant this is. How this attack was not organised without the use of mobile communications doesn't seem feasible and despite the security services monitoring communications worldwide this one obviously slipped under the radar. I expect governments to tighten regulations around the globe, communication surveillance is a tricky subject but without it we seem to be at the mercy of such fanatics on a daily basis, tougher surveillance is only part of the answer to a seemingly unsolvable problem.

Just a reminder that the no politics/no religion rule is still in place, much of this thread should be deleted, but under the circumstances I'd rather not get rid of it, please just stick to messages of support/condolence, I thnk we've had quite enough hate already. Cheers.

Yes, let's express our love for the perpetrators of this horror.
Everyone just saying how sorry they are and offering condolences is rather facile.

Your comments bring shame on you. Most people seem to be responsible on here but you are obviously using the terrorist attacks as an excuse to attack people. You should think about your behaviour.

If you look at some of the videos on theync.com you can see how brutal some people can be. Some people do nasty things as a result of crime or relationship issues but some simply want to kill people in the most despicable way in the name of their religion. Obviously that doesn't apply to everybody who are members of the same religion but we shouldn't ignore it and just ask them nicely and then let them get on with it. Similarly, some countries have methods of execution and punishment that are not acceptable in the West. I don't think simply asking them to stop is sufficient. From what you said earlier you seem to think that is all we should do. Can you confirm that? If not, what else do you think we should do?

    It's calm in Lyon

We can all try and make sense of these events and what it means to society. There is no quick fix, only a move towards global equality. Where will this come from? Education

When there is evidence that people support terrorism as a legitimate attack on the West I would go further than communications surveillance. I would think it is appropriate to bug homes in such a situation.

Should we have just stood back and let Kuwait get taken over by Iraq in 1990?
Some people on here have said that all we should do it talk to other countries. Is that always sufficient? Should we have just told Hitler that he shouldn't have invaded Poland in 1939?
