If everyone stays fit then I would be happy with no in-comings or outgoings in January. But could see a loan move if anything happening

I honestly think we should do absolutely nothing in January. No buying, no selling please.

For me, Ramirez out (saves us £60k pw) and only bring in 9possibly on loan) replacements for any long term injuries that we pick up in the next couple of months.
Other than that, door slammed shut and **** off United!

That's the word from Ronald and Les anyway. The speculators can say all they want, there won't be any business done.

Apparently according to the Telegraph (cited in above blog), United are eager to get Pelle. Not convinced that he is a United-type player and absolutely no chance we would part with our main striker who plays in every game for us with only Shane Long and a still injured JRod as back up. Do these people even read what they write. I'd like Fonte for Christmas....doesn't mean I will get him.<doh>

Yes, St.G mentioned this earlier. Let's say for half-a-second that this is true. It has all the ingredients to be so. 1] Pelle is an ex-player under Van Gaal, albeit a very successful one, but let's not let that get in the way of a good set of coincidences.. 2] Pelle's now proven pedigree in the PL means that the glamour clubs will look at him. 3] Southampton are still just a plucky little club that really ought to know its place. Then I'll add my reason, 4] Saints are becoming a thorn and a danger to rival clubs, of which Van Gaal has decided they qualify. How better to take the sting out of the rival by poaching their most effective player.

But it is BS. ManU can move their focus to a club that wants to sell or needs the money. If others read/watch as many news statements and videos coming out of Saints and reliable, responsible news media, as I do they will know that nothing will happen in January. So save the nervousness, if you have any, for the summer. I suppose Gaston could move on, but he has said to Saints media that he would like to stay and fight for a place, despite all the outside media saying he wants out to Serie A in January. If he does leave then any receiving team are getting a good player. I'm certainly not going to get fidgety over that one.

But what about a pacey winger? We always need a pacey winger<laugh>
Whilst agreeing that we don't need to sign or sell, would it be unusual if we did absolutely nothing at all in the January window?

Interesting because I was reading about Spurs trying to tempt us with Townsend. Well, one thing, if he's not good enough for Spurs why would he be good enough for us.? Persoanlly, I can't see that happening, especially as it is Spurs anyway. The other thing, while watching a lot of Crystal Palace against Liverpool the other day I was delighted with Jason Puncheon. He has arguably improved since he left Saints, and that doesn't happen too often with fully developed players.

I wouldn't be too quick to say "if he's not good enough... etc", many good players have languished at the wrong club. But no I wouldn't esp want Townsend I don't see him providing competition for our front 3.
I always liked puncheon wish we had kept him.

No, I understand what you mean about "if he's not good enough", but this is Spurs and I am very wary of anything they want to offer or take.

I think Pelle would be a fool (and he doesn't strike me as being one!) to go to ManU. That interview with him that's just been posted had him stressing that he needs to keep playing and playing well to still be in the Italy side for next year's Championships - he's got more of a chance of that with us than any "big" club that might come sniffing round. He knows that he's one of the first names on the team sheet which he won't necessarily be in ManU or Chelsea (ha!) or Juventus. Stay with us Graziano, we love you and I think you love us too :emoticon-0152-heart

Indeed. No business with Spurs. Under no circumstances.

I find it odd how very concerned people get at Ramirez's wages, almost as if it's their own money.

Ramirez's wages, I would bet a week of, are absolutely not preventing us from signing anyone else! So let's chill about assuming we'd somehow be in a better position with him "off the books".

Indeed. There is a great perception that Saints are still a club that can barely pay the players. The truth is Saints are loaded. Of course, it is a very good policy to look after the pounds, but let's not become deluded that SFC needs any dosh. We don't need the dosh over Ramirez [there wouldn't be any anyway], but also we don't need the money rather than a player for anyone in the squad, so I don't see why anyone should get even the remotest bit fidgety. If any player says he wants to leave then he going to get a big fat NO and deal with it. Of course, Les would say it very sweetly though. :)

Yeah, I mean Gastón may well go in January, but it's this perception that some great load will be lifted if we get his wages off the books that I find odd. In real terms, it won't make a sausage of difference, we'll just have a player less.

Our recent history suggests this is blatantly untrue.

That Les is sweet or we would say no? I don't think we will allow our team to be disbanded as in the past, but think we are still pragmatic. Once a player has indicated a loss of interest he is likely to be allowed to move on once we have found his replacement, but that will be at our convenience. The longer contracts we are insisting on suggests a tougher line is being taken. I'm not worried about January and neither am I worried that there will be a mass exodus in the summer. I also doubt that Les does sweet. :)
